Engineering ConsultantWhat’s the role?
BMT continues to grow and we’re seeking consultant level staff to support our activities in Strategic Obsolescence Management, primarily for the Defence sector. This work comprises systems analyses to identify obsolescence issues and risks, alongside estimates of the cost and schedule for design changes to produce long-term plans for effective revisions to complex system designs. Our activities aim to influence systems still in concept and early design phases too, to minimise the opportunity for obsolescence risks to occur and increase the systems’ sustainability and resilience. This is an excellent opportunity to play a key role in this growing business and, in time, to progress further within the BMT group of companies.
This Role Will Include
- Implementing methodologies to understand platform obsolescence risk and prioritise mitigation activities
- Implementing methodologies for military platforms that provide an auditable assessment of the through-life costs to resolve obsolescence
- Forecasting unavailability in capability due to obsolescence to justify investment to resolve
We welcome applications from candidates wishing to work full or part time (please note, for part time working you should be available for a minimum of 25 hours per week).
What are we looking for?
This is usually the part where we rattle off a long list of technical skills that the right candidate would need to perform in the role. However, the person we are looking for cannot be defined by a list of qualifications or from having undertaken a specific role before.
To be successful you are likely to identify with a selection of the experiences and abilities outlined below:
- A high level of self-motivation that drives you to deliver
- The ability to support the implementation of strategies and good practices, at a project or Enterprise level, that challenges how things are done and entrenched cultural attitudes
- A natural ability to invite trust from our clients to draw out their true needs and aspirations, so that we can deliver something exceptional
- The ability to understand a broad range of technical topics and to intelligently elicit information from subject matter experts and stakeholders
- System Engineering experience, coupled with an ability to approach whole system problems using architectural hierarchy as a structured way to partition systems for analysis
- A sound commercial acumen and a fundamental understanding of what makes a business tick.
- Exposure to:
- Clients operating with financial constraints
- Procurement strategies
- Engineering design practices and life cycles, for example - change management, inventory and configuration management, and process tailoring, within a defence environment.
