What you’ll do

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Scientist to join our Biologics Engineering team in Cambridge, UK. As a Senior Scientist, you will be a key member of a team focused on developing the next generation of immune cell engagers. You will bring your knowledge and practical expertise in protein purification and antibody characterisation to develop the next generation of drug candidates.


Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Responsible for defining and executing experimental/platform strategies to deliver next-generation biologics, such as multi-specific mAbs, to support pipeline projects and technology delivery

  • Contributes to experimental strategy and implements and delivers recombinant protein expression platform development. Independently leads, plans, and prioritises work activities.

  • Maintains and applies extensive expertise in molecular biology (e.g. expression vector optimisation), protein engineering, protein expression (mammalian transient systems) and purification (e.g. automated liquid chromatography) to facilitate biotherapeutic drug discovery, makes detailed observations, analyses data, interprets results and devises solutions to sophisticated scientific problems

  • Establishes internal and external contacts and collaborations within the scientific field of value to the business and presents findings at internal (intra- and inter-departmental) project team and function meetings

  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication by establishing good working relationships with team and department members and others within the company


Essential Requirements

  • PhD with relevant experience or BSc/higher degree with equivalent lab-based experience

  • A deep level of knowledge and strong technical skills in molecular biology, biochemistry and cell biology. Experience with cell line generation is desirable.

  • Extensive experience in troubleshooting molecular biology and protein expression and purification

  • Experience in protein expression (bacterial and mammalian cells) and purification using AKTA systems

  • Protein characterisation by techniques such as analytical HP-SEC, Mass Spectrometry and thermostability studies

  • Extensive experience in antibody/protein characterisation, including in vitro biochemical assays (ELISA, WB, HTRF, SPR (Biacore) or BLI (Octet).

  • Good communication, capable of developing good working relationships with individuals across organisational boundaries and experience working within a team environment
