Position Summary

The Team

The Global Network Services Team is an integral part of the Infrastructure Services function within the Corporate IT organization and are responsible for the effective operation of global network and telecommunication services across Tokio Marine HCC (TMHCC), spanning approx. 80 locations globally.

Global Network Services design, build, deploy, and operate all aspects of IT Networking, Network Security and Telephony technologies and services.

We are a small (c. 13 staff) but high performing global team, split across London and Houston; operating on a 24x7 basis to deliver a stable, secure, and scalable service for Tokio Marine HCC, in accordance with ITIL and Industry best practice

The Role

Reporting to the Global Head of Network Services, the Senior Network Engineer will design, build, implement, monitor, and maintain moderately complex to complex network systems that are global in scale; including, but not limited to; routers, switches, load-balancers, firewalls, network management and monitoring tools.

You will possess both technical and practical knowledge of all core network and network security technologies and components.

Works both independently and within a team in an operational and design environment, exercising sound judgement and collaborating with cross-discipline workgroups.

Evaluates business and technical requirements and recommends network technologies that, when employed, will meet business goals.

The ability to develop scalable network solutions that are deployable across the enterprise is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively operate, maintain, and monitor the network infrastructure globally, delivering “network as a service” to each business unit across TM HCC.
  • Incident Management – technical resolution for all network incidents including troubleshooting of complex outages and required corrective actions. Supporting the team with any stakeholder communications during such events. All Incidents and requests meet required OLA’s.
  • Change Management – ensure all network changes are undertaken in line with the internal change management processes, following change management processes.
  • Problem Management - management of Problem management activities ensuring that all open problem records are regularly updated and reported on through to closure.
  • Support product lifecycle management activities across the network portfolio
  • Act as a technical mentor to more junior member of the team, directing as appropriate on policies and procedures, technical problems, priorities, and methods.
  • Provide technical expertise across the organization relating to Networks, including supporting the team in the on-going maintenance and surveillance of related networks and applications
  • Champion and adhere to standards and operating procedures to ensure quality and productivity with the network portfolio
  • Champion and adhere with installation and configuration documents and other reference guides as needed
  • Actively participate and engage on network engineering design and design governance
  • Identify and correct network non-compliance issues
  • Work closely with other Network Engineers to plan and complete assigned tasks within deadlines
  • Ensure that the network infrastructure is fully documented and performing as required for internal and customer SLA guarantees and expectations by means of specific metrics and measurements
  • Work with the Global Head of Network Services with the identification and recommendation on cost-effective technology solutions.
  • Support the Principal Network Engineer and/or Global Head of Network Services as required with technical investment planning, including budget preparation and timeline determination.

Experience , Skills & Competencies

Experience

  • You will have at least 10 years’ experience of internetworking within a global enterprise organization (3000+ users)

  • You will have significant experience in managing product lifecycle (hardware and software)
  • You will have significant and demonstrable hands-on experience in implementing, managing, and troubleshooting networks in a pressurized environment, ideally within Financial Services or Insurance.
  • You will be familiar with a variety of testing tools, networking technologies and techniques to accurately troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems associated with the service, application and network hardware and software.
  • You will have expert knowledge of industry changes, updates, and technical developments related to IT networking, to enable proactive response to business requirements.

You will have the following certification or demonstrable working experience
  • Degree level qualification in a relevant field

  • Cisco CCNP certification or higher; CCIE highly preferred

  • ITIL v3 foundation or higher

You will have a high level of knowledge and experience in the following technology areas:

  • Cisco Routing & Switching (IOS, ASR, ISR, NXOS)

  • Cisco Application Centric Infrastructure (ACI, APIC)

  • Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE)

  • Cisco Meraki Wireless
  • Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA, Firepower, NGFW)
  • VMWare VeloCloud SD-WAN
  • Citrix NetScaler Load balancing & content switching
  • Web Proxy / URL filtering
  • BGP and OSPF
  • Policy Maps
  • Segmentation, VLAN, Spanning Tree, L3 interfaces, HSRP, EIGRP, TCP/IP
  • QoS (Quality of Service), ACL (Access Control Lists)
  • Network Monitoring & Alerting
  • Network Traffic Analysis (Netflow, SPAN)
  • Network Security products (including IDS, IPS, DLP)
  • DDoS mitigation techniques and technologies

Competencies

  • You will possess and have the ability to apply advanced knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures

  • You will be an excellent communicator with effective influencing skills essential to function effectively in a federated environment and liaise effectively with global colleagues and team members at all levels.

  • You will be highly organized and have proven ability to operate well under pressure, working to tight deadlines. Leading complex investigations to root cause analysis.
  • You will be able to identify tasks and manage them effectively to completion autonomously without supervision.
  • You will have a high proficiency and experience using Microsoft Office package (Visio, Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
