Local Unit & Position Description:
DNV Energy Systems are seeking a Senior Mechanical/ Piping Engineer, to be based in our Edinburgh Design and Verification team, part of our Repair and Intervention Department. Our services include design, verification/ appraisal, engineering/ safety studies and technical consultancy. You would be joining a small with ambitious growth targets, a mix of highly motivated experienced senior engineers, through to developing graduate engineers. You will take ownership of your discipline specific area whilst guiding our young colleagues in their development path, supporting knowledge transfer and competence development.

We are looking for an experienced engineer ideally with a background in the UK’s onshore natural gas distribution/ transmission industries, other experience in similar industries will be considered. We plan to develop this role into the decarbonisation areas of Hydrogen production/ storage/ transmission, CCS, Biogas etc.

Working directly for the Design Manager in our Edinburgh office, we expect you to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills and to build and effectively develop both internal and external relationships.

Your main duties will be to:
  • Review client’s technical documentation and submissions and determine the potential impacts and/or mitigation required to complete the project works.
  • Provide expertise on piping material, valves, control equipment and systems etc.
  • Advise on use of standards, practices, guidelines and procedures.
  • Ensure CDM is built into all designs produced, and that all issues are mitigated to tolerable levels.
  • Check/ review the quality of other team members, review completeness and correctness.
  • Work within a multi-discipline team (internal and external) of engineers, coordinating all aspects to ensure DNV’s and the client’s needs are served.
  • Prepare, and/ or contribute to the development of technical aspects of bid documentation for solutions to customer requests.
  • Prepare, and when required present technical reports to the highest standards required by DNV and our clients.
  • Manage engineers, technical assistants, draughtsmen, contract personnel as directed.
  • Mentor, and develop other team members, sharing knowledge, experience, and skills.
  • Be responsible for own development, ensuring they maintain their required technical, personal, and professional development.
  • Control of change and scope growth.
  • Work within DNV’s HSE, quality and operational guidelines, always ensuring full compliance.
  • Ensure alignment with organisational objectives.
  • Provide technical governance in specialist areas of engineering design, operations and construction, including coaching, mentoring of other team members as required.
Position Qualifications:

To qualify, we need you to have:

  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Process or Gas Engineering or may accept related STEM degree or Batchelors degree (2.1 minimum) in same.
  • Ideally Chartered Status (equivalent, or working towards Chartered), or may accept Incorporated Engineer. Either with Institute of Gas or Mechanical Engineers; other ‘related’ Institutes, may be considered.
  • Possess the potential to be registered on design Approver/Appraiser competency register MyCDA as a G17/G35/PS6 Mechanical Approver/Appraiser in one or more of the following areas:
    • Mechanical, 2 to 7 bar steel pipelines
    • Cathodic Protection systems
    • Mechanical, Above 7 bar steel pipelines
    • Mechanical, below 7 bar PE pipelines
    • Mechanical, below 7 bar AGI’s
    • Mechanical, Hazardous Area Classification.
  • Full UK driving license.
  • Flexibility to travel within UK and potentially overseas for various periods of time.
