The Opportunity

Based in our state-of-the-art facility near to the heart of the capital city, Cardiff School of Management (CSM) is a dynamic and professionally focussed school offering a wide range of accredited qualifications from Foundation through to Doctorate across multiple discipline areas. Established subject areas include Business, Management, Leadership, Marketing, Fashion Marketing, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Banking, Tourism, Hospitality and Events - recently augmented with the addition of a Qualifying Law Degree (LLB).

You will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional with excellent communication and interpersonal skills coupled with a commitment to providing an excellent student experience. An established or promising research profile in the field of Fashion Marketing and very good teaching experience on relevant programmes is essential.

To be successful you will further enrich our students’ experience through your expertise and subject knowledge as evidenced through your qualifications and experience.


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

You will be required to make a significant contribution to the delivery of our taught portfolio contributing to BA (Hons) Fashion Marketing Management, BA (Hons) Fashion Buying and Brand Management and MSc Fashion Marketing Management and other areas of our core curriculum depending on your areas of expertise and experience. The department also offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Marketing and Digital Marketing as well as being a CIM Accredited Study Centre. Enthusiastic about student-centred pedagogy, you will contribute to education delivery, including programme management as required, across the range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. You will also make a significant contribution to employability, and professional engagement with relevant internal and external organisations, at a regional, national and international level.

You be further required to either add to the research profile of the department or to the enterprise/spin-out/innovation agenda.


The successful applicant will have:

  • An excellent awareness of marketing, fashion, buying, merchandising, VM, journalism, film/photography and their impact upon the fashion marketing and society alike.
  • Design teaching to be informed by contemporary research which leads to students developing the ability to engage in current debates, discourse and logical thinking.
  • Have both academic experience and experience of working in or closely with the fashion industry.

What we are looking for -Experience & Strengths

  • An in-depth knowledge of specialist subject and professional area.
  • An in-depth understanding of pedagogy.
  • An in-depth understanding of research/innovation and scholarly activity.
  • Ability to design, develop and deliver a range of programmes at various levels.
  • Ability to review programme design on a regular basis to ensure compliance with quality standards and academic regulations and to make alterations where appropriate.
  • Ability to contribute to the achievement of the School Development Plan and the institutions strategic planning processes.
  • Ability to develop research objectives, prepare proposals, carry out independent research, referee and contribute to peer assessment.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for strategic development/improvement e.g. research projects, new courses, consultancy.
  • Ability to identify (through the analysis of appropriate management information) areas requiring improved performance e.g. student numbers, student satisfaction.
  • Experience of HE teaching or equivalent.
  • Experience of providing academic leadership and first line support/mentoring for other colleagues.
  • Experience of engaging in pedagogic and practitioner research.

  • A good honours degree
  • Ability to achieve Fellow Status as part of the Higher Education Academy’s Professional Recognition scheme, within agreed timescales (as soon as is practicably possible and definitely within three years of commencement of employment).
