Senior SEND Learning Assistant required for St Helens Pupil Referral setting - care / support background accepted.

We are currently recruiting for a St Helens based alternative provision school with amazing facilities for SEND.

They are looking for the right person to offer support (academic / emotional) in the school setting in their KS1 / KS2 provision.

The school offers alternative provision across 4 teaching bases (KS3, KS4, medical PRU, the tuition base) and we refer into 4 quality assured private providers for vocational qualifications at KS4. It caters for complex pupils in St Helens with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. The majority of pupils remain dual registered with their mainstream schools. Pupils study the national curriculum towards GCSE’s in the teaching bases, while the private providers offer a wide range of vocational learning experiences, linked accreditation, functional skills and social and personal development opportunities.

Your new school are seeking a member of staff who can bring confidence, enthusiasm, and motivation to pupils. They incorporate an ethos of fun and inquisitiveness in their approach to the Primary curriculum; promoting students to shine and enrich their learning journey. You will be working in a community enriched environment with strong partnerships to sports associations and local traditions. They run GCSE / Functional Skills / Vocational Qualifications in a safe and stimulating environment for pupils. Your new role.

You will be required to immerse yourself within a busy SEND provision and provide support for pupils and Teaching staff. In the KS1 / KS2 provision you will be working with children with complex emotional needs from a variety of different backgrounds. Good behaviour management is essential with the ability to form strong and positive working relationships with the children. You will be working in small group classes and take direction from your class Teacher. You may be required to supervise children outside of the classroom or help them maintain focus and engagement within the school day. You will work alongside staff and pupils with emotional difficulties and use teaching and behavioural methods in line with Quality First Teaching practices. You will track and monitor behaviour and work to provide a bespoke curriculum for pupils. You will take part in training in line with the school CPD calendar.

What you will need to succeed.
  • A minimum of 30 days experience working with children in the past 3 years.
  • Ability to work 1:1 and in a group setting.
  • Strong commutation skills.
  • Good behaviour management techniques / resilience i learning.
  • Work constructively as part of a team.
  • Ability to work alongside children with SEN / behavioural needs.
  • Up-to-date DBS preferred.
