The position of Senior HR Generalist is a fantastic opportunity for an HR Professional to expand on their own experience. Working collaboratively with Offshore Managers and Marine Operations handling diverse responsibilities from employee relations cases, broader policy advice, and implementing improvements to our current HR operation practices.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Management of the offshore HR inbox, supporting quick and efficient responses to all crew and manager queries in line with offshore policies (and local legislation where appropriate).
  • Track, manage and advise on all ST and LT sickness cases on vessels.
  • Provide the offshore HR Managers with appropriate guidance and advice where needed.
  • Work with HR Managers to identify areas for upskill required – both for HR Managers and Managers on vessels.
  • Create, update and maintain offshore HR policies where required.
  • Communicate HR policies and processes and ensure policies are up to date and compliant with local legislation.
  • Maintain confidentiality of records and documentation required for employee relations issues.
  • Partner with legal department and external advisors to solve complex ER issues and keep abreast of the changing legal landscape to ensure these are effectively implemented into company policies and procedures.
  • Produce and analyse HR / ER related data, identifying solutions as necessary and sharing all trends and insights with relevant stakeholders.
  • Be a trusted advisor to HR Managers within the offshore HR team globally to provide advice and input into wider people policies and guidance on HR matters
  • Identify and participate in continuous improvement initiatives conducted by the Global HR team.
  • Ensure compliance with Data Privacy & Protection Guidelines. Labour Law and relevant legislation.
  • Identify areas for improvement and recommend appropriate solutions to address the needs of a growing organization.

Education and experience

  • HR qualification (UK based minimum CIPD level 5)
  • Min of 5 years, experience of working in a medium to large organisation as an HR Generalist/Advisor with a strong employee relations background
  • Proven experience of case management and sickness management
  • Experience of working with remote teams
  • Experience of creating and amending people policies
  • Up to date employment law knowledge
  • Experience of working with SAGE desirable but not essential

Personal Qualities

  • Ability to establish and build trusted working relationships with strong interpersonal skills, both in person and remotely given the global split of the offshore HR Managers. The role can be based in the Gatwick or Bergen office and therefore advice, coaching and guidance will be via phone and Teams. Some travel may be required to attend meetings in person.
  • Ability to work well under pressure to meet deadlines and targets.
  • A long-term interest to develop knowledge regarding employment law in countries outside of the UK.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to articulate information clearly and concisely both verbally and in written format.
  • Highly organised with a methodical approach and an eye for detail.
  • A proactive problem solver with a passion for delivering a great employee experience.
