We have an exciting opportunity at RSK for you to join Leap Environmental, a dynamic and vibrant Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Consultancy in the South East. Working alongside and being supported by an experienced team based in one of the three offices (Burgess Hill, Goudhurst or Kent) you will be responsible for managing projects and supporting design teams. You will get involved with a wide variety of geotechnical and geo-environmental projects including investigations in relation to commercial and residential development, energy infrastructure, logistics, healthcare, environmental permitting and Part IIA. Key clients include residential developers, Tier 1 contractors, and local authorities.

Main Duties and Tasks

A Senior grade Consultant/Engineer, who will report directly to one of the two Associate Directors, is expected to take the lead on a number of projects.

It is expected that employees working at this grade will have a keen project finance awareness, be client facing, self-motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, and work well within a team environment.

Whilst a large proportion of the work will be directed from the office at which you are located, there is a good deal of inter region work and you may also be required to work with and provide support to the other regional offices.

You will be required to carry out all or some of the following tasks:
  • Liaise with and manage clients, prepare tenders and fee proposals
  • Organise and manage projects calling on specialist input from in-house Principal Engineers or retained Consultants for non-standard or more complex issues.
  • Plan and organise a team undertaking field work/site investigations, allocating LEAP in-house resources and external sub-contractors as appropriate.
  • Compile Risk and Method Statements for field work/site investigations, for approval by the company Health and Safety Officer
  • Use specialist in-house and commercial software to aid in the design of spread and piled foundations, slope stability, SuDS, roads, retaining walls etc
  • Collect, analyse and interpret geological, geochemical and geotechnical data, provide geotechnical design parameters and be sufficiently familiar with the process of contaminated land risk assessment to be able to provide preliminary remediation design parameters.
  • Prepare Phase 1 reports
  • Compile and review Phase 2 ground investigation reports, geotechnical design reports, geotechnical feedback reports, basement impact assessments, earthworks specifications etc with input from Principal Engineers for more complex geotechnical issues.
  • Mentor and train junior staff.

Qualifications/ Certification
  • BSc degree level qualified in Geology, Civil Engineering or a related subject essential
  • MSc in Engineering Geology/Geotechnical Engineering or other related discipline preferable but not essential
  • Chartered Geologist, Scientist or Engineer with a relevant professional body or working towards Chartered status with a relevant institution (e.g. CGeol, CEng, CIWEM)
  • Typically requires at least 4-6 years specific relevant experience
  • Full UK driving licence
