Please note this opportunity will be offered as an 18 month fixed-term contract or secondment.
Following the success of the Essex Year of Reading, we are looking for a Senior External Communications Adviser to lead the communications and marketing programme for the Essex Year of Numbers (EYON).
You will be responsible for designing and delivering the external communications strategy with a focus on achieving key outcomes associated with increasing numeracy levels with key audiences. The post holder will play a significant role in building positive engagement within the Education system around the EYON and the wider work of ECC’s Education directorate
The role requires someone with significant experience and expertise, who is committed and passionate and who can champion the need for strategic communications and engagement strategies, which look to change behaviours.
The work will be outcome based, insight driven, accessible to a broad range of audience groups and delivered to timeframes.
You will be responsible for increasing engagement across partner organisations and public and the education community. The post holder will need to project manage the delivery of established strategies, working with colleagues across Communications and Marketing and Education in particular, also specialist external suppliers
The role requires an individual who is adaptable, adept at working in a fast-moving environment. The post holder will be expected to develop an effective relationship with a range of stakeholders, including members of the Essex Education Taskforce, ensuring full visibility of project work and alignment of desired outcomes. You will understand how to collaborate, working with stakeholders at every level and be comfortable navigating shifting priorities and complex work to deliver impact.
About you
Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience, you can also evidence continuing professional development. You will have a good grasp of the external communications landscape
You will have had experience of devising and external communications strategies at all levels for large, complex organisations.
You will have experience of managing and negotiating with a variety of stakeholders, both internal and externally, both at a senior and technical level.
You will have the ability to understand complex language and proposals and communicate these in an accessible format to a broad range of audiences.
You will have experience working in a political environment and have an understanding of working with politicians and political organisations.
You will be adaptable, adept at working in a fast-moving environment that relies on real-time communications, welcome change and have a growth mindset.
