Purpose

The role of Senior Engineer Telecoms sits within the Telecoms function of SP Energy Networks. In this role you will provide effective support on the design, planning, maintenance, support and cost effectiveness of the operational Telecom infrastructure to the Strategic Telecom Manager. You will act as the delivery and detailed design authority on behalf of internal customers and liaise with Telecom service providers to deliver their business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all duties in support of SP EnergyNetworks Operational Excellence goals & other business drivers, ensuring health, safety, quality and environmental aspects at all times
  • Produce, develop and maintain Telecom policy and process documentation reflecting best practise and operational experience.
  • Evaluate and recommend new Telecom equipment and suppliers to ensure equipment installed on the EnergyNetworks Telecom network is fit for purpose.
  • Develop the profitability of EnergyNetworks through the adoption of appropriate new equipment and processes.
  • Manage the total service provision to all the EnergyNetworks business units for operational Telecom requirements including faults, maintenance and Project delivery.
  • Respond to internal customers efficiently and timeously.
  • Represent EnergyNetworks on national & international working groups and committees to influence the decision making in the wider Telecom community and to reflect the requirements of EnergyNetworks.
  • Investigate failures and defects affecting EnergyNetworks Telecom equipment and recommend appropriate remedial actions and/or changes to EnergyNetworks policy as required.
  • Management of external contractors
  • Recommend annual work program and budgetary requirements to Asset Manager.
  • Recommend work program, budgetary requirements and assist the justification of Regulatory Price Reviews submissions.
  • Assists with the identification and preparation of budgets and manages capex and opex spend against project, task and activity budgets.

Skills and Requirements

We are looking for individuals with experience in managing a utility sector internal operational telecom network, with proven experience and expert knowledge. You will also possess good inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to form effective working relationships with other departments / businesses, as well as:

  • Qualified to Degree/HND or equivalent in Electronic / Data /Power / Cyber Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Experience of managing budgets and/or program management of several projects.
  • Preferably experienced in the review of contractor’s detailed designs.

To be successful in this role you will need to demonstrate as a minimum:

  • Academic qualification of degree level (or equivalent) in a relevant engineering discipline
  • Preferably Chartered Engineer status or working towards this
  • Preferably Prince 2 accredited
  • Basic Knowledge of SP Energy Networks health & safety requirements and compliance
  • A general understanding of the organisation and operation of the business.
  • Experienced in the operation of internal Telecom Networks

This is a Permanent contract. Salary for this role will be from £44,700 to £55,000 depending on experience.
