We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior EIA Consultant to join our Environmental & Sustainability (E&S) team in Northern England (options include Leeds, York, Newcastle, Manchester) and Scotland (Edinburgh or Glasgow) to manage and deliver environmental inputs to large scale infrastructure projects - this includes rail, road, power, power transmission, ports, airports, water, land development. We would also consider candidates in other locations across the UK. You will provide environmental inputs across all project lifecycles; from early strategy development, through feasibility, optioneering/ option selection, outline design, to detailed design, discharging of consents, construction and scheme operation/ maintenance.

We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about delivering effective environmental inputs and positively influencing the environmental performance of development projects. You must be able to demonstrate experience in managing multidisciplinary environmental inputs to complex and large scale projects, working closely with design engineers to intercept and mitigate potential environmental effects, engaging and consulting across a wide range of audiences, as well as effectively managing resources and budgets.

The successful candidates will be supported by our established E&S team across the UK which includes over 650 staff.

You will provide support and input to our growing portfolio of high-profile development projects, including:

+ Rail projects such as the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) and the Northumberland Line

+ Power generation projects with carbon capture

+ Power transmission projects for National Grid

+ Road projects for Highways England

You will have the opportunity to work on projects that are transforming our infrastructure.

Your role will include:
+ Managing and coordinating multidisciplinary environmental inputs across a range of projects, with a focus on the management of EIAs in support of gaining development consent. Includes managing the preparation of EIA screening and scoping reports and Environmental Statements, including the technical review of specialist chapters.

+ Liaising with clients and internal supply teams, including working collaboratively with design teams to ensure that environmental considerations are appropriately taken into account

+ Working in partnership with other members of the E&S team, managing resources, delegating activities, monitoring and managing project budgets.

+ Supporting and leading the identification of new business opportunities and associated fee and technical proposal development, which will include promoting AECOM’s E&S services to both internal and external audiences.

+ Fully qualified scientist. Utilizes scientific principles, theories, practices and existing technologies to develop technical solutions to a wide range of difficult problems.

+ Requires general familiarity within a broad field of scientific knowledge of reciprocal effects of the work upon other disciplines/fields.

+ Interprets and records data, conducts analyses, compares findings to relevant studies and local, state, and federal regulations to ensure compliance.

+ Works under only general direction. Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.

+ Solves problems by use of combinations of standard procedures, modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.

+ Participates in planning required to achieve prescribed objectives.

+ Conducts analysis and investigation work obtained from a variety of sources.

+ Performs inspections and tests to ensure compliance.

+ Participates in developing corrective measures and procedures. Formulates hypothesis, performs research and makes recommendation.

Minimum Requirements

+ You will have experience and a passion for the developing sustainable solutions to environmental problems.

+ Experience commensurate with specified job responsibilities.

+ An excellent understanding of the EIA processes (including screening and scoping), environmental assessment methods and applicable planning legislation.

+ Confident engaging with a wide variety of stakeholder groups.

+ The ability to lead and work collaboratively as part of an established team, supervising members of staff as applicable.

+ Excellent verbal and report writing skills, including technical reviewing – all with an attention to detail.

+ Excellent project management skills, including experience of programming, staff resource management, and effective budget management.

+ Willingness to travel.

Preferred Qualifications

+ A degree in a relevant environmental discipline

+ Appropriate professional membership - CEnv qualification an advantage

+ Experience of the DCO and/or TWAO consenting regimes an advantage
