Job Description

The Senior Composite and Mechanical Design Engineer will take full responsibility for assigned projects and designs, taking them from concept through to assembly, specifying tests and developing designs, production techniques and quality improvements in order to deliver class leading components to the car.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and development of composite and metallic wishbone solutions, from concept through to delivery. Working closely with aero, Vehicle dynamics structural and manufacturing departments you will produce designs combining high levels of performance and reliability.
  • Work closely with FE engineers to optimise and develop structural designs providing the highest level of integrity.
  • Specification of composite NDT procedures and results analysis.
  • Technical and process development of wishbones and other high level composite assemblies, driving team capabilities.
  • Lead preventative and reactive reliability work for assigned designs and systems throughout component life cycle, ensuring highest levels of overall car reliability.
  • Design of other composite and mechanical car components of varying complexity to the highest standards.
  • Definition and management of performance and reliability lab testing programs for relevant designs and projects.
  • Close collaboration with other engineering departments and external suppliers to ensure fully integrated system designs achieving optimal car performance.
  • Support of junior design team members to develop composite and processing knowledge.

Candidate Profile:
  • Mechanical, composite, automotive or aeronautical engineering degree (2:1 minimum grade) or similar qualification.
  • Substantial and recent high level structural composite design experience in F1, another top level motorsport category or an equivalent high level engineering industry.
  • Excellent knowledge of composite components, composite science, tooling systems, materials and industry production techniques.
  • Understanding and use of finite element analysis tools and hand calculation methodologies to produce reliable and optimised designs, analysing and questioning results as appropriate.
  • High level mechanical motorsport design experience with understanding of materials and relevant systems.
  • High level of commitment and self-responsibility with ability and confidence to work independently whilst showing a tenacious approach to leading projects with strict deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively and confidently communicate at all levels.
  • Collaborative approach with ability to engage others at all levels to achieve integrated results achieving best overall compromise.
  • Experience of Catia V5/3DX and Catia/Abaqus FE would be an advantage.
