This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow to work in General Medicine for a fixed term of six months. This is a Full Time post offering an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Medic to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary acute care in St Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals.

Due to the short term nature of the role/service demand, the successful candidate must hold full registration with the GMC and have existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application. Candidates who are not GMC registered or do not hold existing right to live and work in the UK, at the time of application will not progress through the shortlisting stage.

Main duties of the job

This is currently a Fixed Term post for 6 months. This post would suit someone who has successfully completed their FY2 programme or equivalent, awaiting an ST1/2 training position or above, giving excellent experience in General Medicine. The successful candidate will be based within Ward 1A and expected to initially manage all types of patient in the ward, organize appropriate investigations and treatment, and refer or discharge patients accordingly. The post is Monday- Friday and the successful post holder will be required to contribute to the ST3+ and/or IMT3 on-call rota.

The successful candidate will work for St. Helens & Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and be covered by the terms of service as amended from time to time by the Trust. As a consequence he/she is expected to work within the local policies, procedures, standing orders and financial instructions of the Trust. All medical staff under contract to the Trust will be expected to comply with the Trust Health and Safety policies.

A £338 million (PFI) investment has re-built and modernised both Whiston and St Helens Hospitals, resulting in modern state of the art health care facilities for the treatment and care of patients. St Helens Hospital was completed in 2008 and Whiston Hospital in 2010. The hospitals include 887 inpatient beds with state of the art CT and MRI facilities existing on both hospital sites. CT and MRI scanners at St Helens have also recently been upgraded including installation of a high field 3 Tesla MRI scanner. The DEXA scanner is also located at St Helens Hospital.

  • MB ChB or equivalent medical qualification
  • ALS Certification
