Research & Safety Market Division Europe is building a bridge between business and science as the industry’s definitive single source channel for a comprehensive range of laboratory equipment, chemicals, instruments, life sciences reagents, and consumable supplies. Our regional structure includes sales office and logistics centres in 18 countries across Europe that are strategically located to provide prompt, responsive delivery to our customers. You will work in a diverse, multi-cultural team to partner with clients understanding their needs and developing solutions by leveraging internal and external suppliers. Job Location: UK, remote (to include Netherlands & Belgium)

Brief role summary:

The Senior Business Development Manager, Biotech Ecosystems owns the regional relationship between established and emerging Biotech Associations, Bio-Incubators (existing & to-be), innovation centres (including those in key academic institutes), Science Parks and Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Research & Safety Markets Division (RSD). They will strengthen the overall ecosystem and market strategy, and collaborate with the divisions to build focused account partnership/growth strategies. They will develop relationships at the senior level, within key ecosystem organisations and RSD to plan and implement an ecosystem strategy to increase revenue for the division. The role will position RSD’s entire portfolio of products & services, as well as position RSD in the perspective of the whole Thermo Fisher Scientific Corporation in alignment with the Corporate Account Executives and other Divisional Commercial leads.

Responsibilities:
  • Accelerate RSD growth through product access and positioning of total Thermo Fisher solutions with Biotech Associations, innovation centres and bio-incubators, at the onset of new co-establishment.
  • Establish relationships with corporate developers in the life science space and real estate entities, to use for partnership and growth.
  • Build strategies incorporating RSD division and its field sales organizations, to drive growth and improve market share within the regional ecosystem.
  • Identify key areas of short term and long-term growth in the emerging biotech space.
  • Represent the entire RSD portfolio and be responsible for the interface between the account, RSD and other divisions. Partner closely with other Thermo Fisher Commercial leads and Corporate Accounts.
  • Identify new potential partnerships and draft contractual terms.
  • Conduct regular business updates to key partners within regional ecosystem and Thermo Fisher.
  • Develop the business objectives for the ecosystem strategy with the commercial team, including umbrella financial objectives and compliance metrics.
  • Delivers upon assigned revenue targets on a quarterly and annual basis.
  • Ensure a well-adapted process to define, communicate, activate, implement, and performance run strategic choices and initiatives that will drive achievement of goals.
  • Provide market insight and input into commercial tools, programs and processes that can be confirmed broadly across the organization, including portfolio and pricing strategies.
  • Partner with the leadership team in EMEA (RLT) to tailor growth strategies across specific geographies.
  • This position is home office based in Europe.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a Life Sciences subject area.
  • Minimum 5 years of sales experience within the Biotech Industry with a consistent track record for sales achievement.
  • Demonstrable successes of influencing and shaping the customer environment to generate competitive advantage for RSD & Thermo Fisher.
  • An effective networker with experience of engaging and influencing Key Opinion Leaders.
  • A strong teammate and facilitator with consistent track record to coordinate effectively across a team of resources not directly reporting.
  • Shown ability to coordinate activities and influence actions of our commercial and channel representatives to drive pivotal initiatives.
  • Have a greater understanding of the competitive landscape in the customer base
  • Possess strong analytical capabilities that can assess and understand profitability of customer relationships, to optimally form partnerships.
  • Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of international business with secure financial/discernment.
  • Well established project management skills. Analysis, planning, organization, execution and follow-up.
  • Upbeat, motivated and resourceful.
  • Showed strength with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to travel overnight (up to 50%)

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience of working in a global setting and leading different cultural teams
  • Previous experience within Biotech Ecosystems
  • Matrix management and / or cross functional experience
