Job Description

The Scottish Qualifications Authority is Scotland’s national awarding and accreditation body.

We are trusted to oversee thousands of qualifications available in schools, colleges and workplaces, not just in this country but around the world.

We are looking for a Senior Business Accountant to work within the Finance team on a fixed-term basis to cover maternity. This role will focus on assisting with our IT Change Programme.

The successful candidate will be required to improve financial management within the Business Systems directorate and influence the development of first-class financial controls and reporting. To do this, you must be able to demonstrate experience in the following specific duties:

  • Liaise with key stakeholders in the business to prepare the annual budget and create a credible narrative supporting budget requirements.
  • Continuously improve the finance processes within Business Systems to improve the customer experience and develop and implement new processes.
  • Ensure accuracy and completeness in delivering month-end with support from the Accountant;
  • Assist the Programme Finance Manager with all financial aspects of the change programme

Additionally, you must be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

  • Build strong relationships with all senior staff and interpret complex financial issues if necessary.
  • Provide advice, guidance and training to non-financial staff in respect of financial processes.
  • Experience of working in a project cost management environment, preferably within an IT context

Applicants, as a minimum, should be educated to SCQF Level 9 (degree) ideally in a financial discipline and be a qualified accountant associated with one of the CCAB accounting bodies and/or be able to demonstrate direct relevant experience for this role.
