The Team

The data protection and cyber security practice within Norton Rose Fulbright comprises over 50 data privacy specialists in teams across US, Canada, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Australia. Our London team advises on the full range of data protection compliance, breach and regulatory response, including major multi-jurisdictional projects, for clients (as suppliers) ranging from start-ups to Tech giants and (as customers) major multinational corporations.

The European data protection team is led from London and there is very regular interaction with our colleagues in Germany, France, Netherlands and Poland on data protection matters, particularly on GDPR projects. There is also significant interaction with our other teams around the world, probably most with the US followed by Asia.

We are a tight knit team and with GDPR implementations in full flow a busy one in need of further senior resource to lead a variety of projects from binding corporate rules applications through to data protection issues that arise in blockchain use cases.

The Role

We are currently looking for a senior associate to work within the data practice (which sits alongside the transactional IT and IP practice) in the London Corporate department. This successful candidate will be expected to play a significant role in developing and growing the practice providing an opportunity for career progression for the right candidate. This role would suit both lawyers or data protection officers in private practice data protection teams, or in house lawyers from large multi-nationals or data heavy businesses.

Skills and Experience Required

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A track record of designing and implementing practical data protection programmes
  • Deep knowledge of data export, including the binding corporate rules approval process
  • Experience of responding to the exercise of data subject rights, breaches and dealing with the ICO and other data protection regulators
  • An interest in technology from basic IT corporate networks and applications through to A.I. and blockchain
  • An enthusiasm for keeping up with data protection developments and presenting and blogging on them to colleagues and clients
  • The ability to work in a tight knit and supportive multi-cultural team
  • Experience of managing multi-jurisdictional projects
  • An international outlook and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Business development skills and enthusiasm to help build our practice further
  • Excellent academic background
