SEND Classroom AssistantsFlexibleYorkStart date: January 2023 or ASAPAre you passionate about the learning and development of students with Special Education Needs and Disabilities?Teaching Personnel are currently looking for confident and enthusiastic learning assistants for a range of exciting and rewarding opportunities in SEND classrooms in York.Education based experience is not essential to apply, having some previous childcare related experience is; if you have experience tutoring, mentoring, nannying and coaching, you are suitable for this role.Are you interested in starting a fulfilling career working with SEND pupils and have relevant experience?As a SEND Learning Support Assistant, You Will Become An Integral Part Of a Pupil’s Social, Academic And Personal Development By Doing The Following
  • Join in with the activities of the students in classes. Ensure students remain focused and support positive engagement within the classroom.
  • Assist in the carrying out of modified curriculum and prepare adapted material, for example visual aids.
  • Where appropriate, act as a scribe.
  • Participate in the planning process with delivery of areas of the curriculum.
  • Assist pupils with interventions and engage with other agencies as required.
  • Prepare the classroom for learning, create displays and practice good housekeeping to ensure the classroom remains in good order.
  • Engage with positive behavior management strategies, including positive handling (MAPA).
  • To confidentially engage with school IT systems and engage in specialist training.
  • To ensure familiarity with students EHCP’s, Curriculum Access plans, Individual Management plans and other relevant information. To contribute to these where required.
  • When requested, assist with the compilation of reports and attend annual reviews.
  • Take part in meetings and discussions on specified pupils, attend staff and team meetings.
  • Liaise with parents as necessary.
  • Communicate with a pupil, by means of Makaton, Communication Book, AAC or any other non-verbal means of communication.
