To provide a security presence to Authority owned premises to for the purpose of preventing theft, intrusion, vandalism and the monitoring of persons and vehicles, to ensure a safe and secure environment for all users

Pay Details
: Grade 2 £21,029 pa

This position is subject to the Living Wage supplement (agreed from 1st December 2022), which brings pay rates up to £10.90 per hour. This supplement will be reviewed annually. Vale of Glamorgan Council reserves the right to make any changes to, or removal of, the Living Wage supplement.

Hours of Work / Working Pattern: 4 week shift pattern

Term time 37hrs/week

Main Place of Work: TBC

Description:

To provide a physical Security presence, both internal and external, at Authority owned premises in order to deter theft, fire, damage/vandalism and intrusion.

  • To carry out regular patrols of premises, internal and external, during a shift and to monitor CCTV surveillance equipment (where installed), reporting any incidents in a timely manner to their Supervisor and Facilities Section.
  • To ensure that premises alarm systems are set in accordance with instruction and to respond to any alarm activations and breaches of Security.
  • Ensure compliance with the Council’s Financial Regulations, Standing Orders, Policies and Procedures
  • To implement the principles of the Council’s Equal Opportunity Policy whilst carrying out the above duties
  • To adhere to Health and Safety legislation / relevant Council policies and procedures and to take reasonable care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be adversely affected by your acts / omissions.
  • To implement the principles of the Council’s Environment Policy while carrying out the above duties.
  • To report without delay any safeguarding concerns to the appropriate safeguarding officer.
  • Such other duties and responsibilities commensurate with the grade and in accordance with the general character of the job as may reasonably be required by the Chief Officer from time to time.

About you


You will need:

  • Experience of working in a security related role
  • Experience of working in a customer care driven environment
  • Basic knowledge of all legislation that relates to the Security Industry
  • Basic knowledge of conflict management
  • Basic knowledge of electronic security management systems
  • Good verbal communication skills and the ability to converse with members of the public and client officers
  • Good written communication skills and the ability to draft concise and accurate reports
  • Be physically able to carry out manual and active labouring duties.
  • SIA Licensed
  • Must be able to work on own initiative and undertake duties in an effective manner
  • Positive and self-motivated with the ability to be flexible and responsive to changes in priorities and demands.
  • Ability to drive/travel throughout the Vale or between locations as appropriate

Be prepared to work irregular hours.
