Five Education are working with a special school in Weston-Super-Mare and we are recruiting candidates to work with young people who have Autism and/or SEMH (Social, Emotional & Mental Health needs). Some of the students will have additional needs including challenging behaviour and SpLD (ADHD, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and Dyscalculia). This role is due to start in September 2021.

This is a small quiet school, with a supportive and close staff team. They are looking for candidates who have experience supporting children and/or young people with SEND, ideally Autism, SEMH and/or SpLD.

Responsibilities And Duties
  • Supporting students in a classroom and possibly around the school
  • Assisting students in their work, helping them to remain focussed and on task
  • Using behaviour management techniques (e.g. those learned in Team Teach or MAPA courses) to keep students calm and maintain a safe working environment
  • Supporting young people with SEND, including ASC and SpLD
  • Helping the class teacher with differentiation so all students can access the curriculum
  • Implementing behaviour management tools
  • Helping students to develop self-regulation techniques, and learn when they need to employ them

Essential Criteria
  • A flexible and resourceful approach
  • You will be able to demonstrate positive reinforcement
  • At least 12 months experience supporting children/ young people in an educational, care or coaching environment
  • Ideally, you will have experience supporting children or young people with SEND
  • Have a right to work in the UK (A Valid Visa)
  • Two recent child based references and relevant DBS/ Police checks
  • Access to bicycle, car or near main bus routes.
  • Able to work 8.30-3.30, 5 days per week term time only

Successful applicants will be required to undergo checks including reference checks, TRA checks and will need to have a DBS; there will also be a face to face interview. Five Education do not believe in using umbrella bodies, we use PAYE and how this isn’t comparable with umbrella body pay and that there is no admin fee as with Umbrella bodies and Five Education pay employers national insurance on top of the salary. Please note pay rate is for illustration and does include holiday pay.
