ROLE POSITIONING AND OBJECTIVES

Excellent opportunity for experienced professional to join an FMCG FTSE 100 company, looking to support the business programme to shape product safety approaches for product categories in the “Beyond Nicotine” space, to provide a variety of consumer benefits.

The purpose of the role is to provide toxicological guidance to the projects assessing identified novel ingredients across our different product platforms. To deliver a toxicological programme that can unlock these novel ingredients commercially, while supporting the communication of the findings, helping position BAT as industry professionals & achieve desired business growth. Carrying out toxicological risk assessments of ingredients, products and tailoring assessments to account for different delivery formats (Oral and Vapour).

Works closely with senior toxicologists to influences opportunities and innovative ways to deliver business ambitions.

WHAT YOU WILL BE ACCOUNTABLE FOR

  • Develop robust toxicological science plans to support the use of these new ingredients and ensure the plan can form the foundation of a robust safety communications package.
  • To act as consumer product safety lead and provide direction and consultancy on ‘CPS’ aspects for the project team. Help craft the direction of the programme. Manage key stakeholders on data and timing requirements, ensuring CPS plans are implemented.
  • To conduct CPS evaluations and provide clearance on the new ingredients and products to ensure they meet appropriate standards. Will involve requesting and securing all vital product information from suppliers to enable these risk assessments. Work with supply chain / manufacturing / project team to ensure these are built into the delivery plans.
  • Drive and deliver a connected science programme with internal partners, such as experimental toxicology team, analytical and science teams to support the toxicological assessments.
  • Challenge current paradigms & approaches. Identify & deliver an overarching project that enables an efficient, robust yet simplified approach to new ingredients & natural materials.
  • Be an integral part of the team taking these products to commercialisation and driving and securing insight on safety matters once in market through surveillance.
  • Build a broad external network and keep connected with the external literature / data & methodologies to help shape the programme. Ensure these new data and sources can support and supplement the data required to enable risk assessment.
  • Act, behave and become knowledgeable enabling partner. Lead by example to deliver CPS culture vision. Tap into and apply expertise within affiliate organisation to drive our programmes harder.


CAN THIS BE YOUR FUTURE ROLE?

  • Do you have any proven experience in desk based toxicological risk assessment?
  • Have you worked in Product Safety Role before?


ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE, SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • In depth experience applying the principles of toxicology & risk assessment to support product safety.
  • Ability to tailor scientific communications to different audiences.
  • Experience with programme/project management.
  • Good awareness of FMCG business operations or Pharmaceutical operations.
  • Good communication, proactive and simple, capable of conveying sophisticated technical requirements simply.
  • Ability to manage upwards effectively and assertively, as well as within the peer group, to help drive and advise the decision-making process.
  • Professional/academic achievement in toxicology or a related science equivalent to 2nd Degree (e.g. biology, chemistry, pharmacology or similar)


BENEFICIAL

  • Experience in oral products such as food or dietary supplements.
  • European Registered Toxicologist status or DABT.
