SCHOOL RECEPTIONIST

Start date: September 2021

Hours: Full-time

In addition to the standard working week, this role involves an element of Saturday working. During term time (29 weeks of the year) reception is open between 9am and 12.30pm. This time can either be taken in lieu, either on Wednesday afternoons during term time, finishing at 2pm or through 13 days additional holiday allowance (in addition to our standard 28 days) to be taken outside of term time.

Pay: Salary range £21,000- £23,000 (dependent on experience)

Lord Wandsworth College is recruiting for an experienced School Receptionist with exceptional communication skills. The successful candidate will ideally have a good standard of education, preferably to include further education A levels, National Diplomas but not essential. Up to date ICT skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office. Experience of working with databases is desirable but not essential.

RESPONSIBILITIES: To include but not be limited to:
  • To manage the switchboard and act as first point of contact for visitors to the College
  • Help produce copy, both in long and short form, for parent communications and proofread publications
  • Secretarial and admin duties for all staff, such as mailings to parents, academic guides, school policies, etc
  • Support administration of academic reports
  • Ensure pupil attendance registers have been completed on time and accurately
  • Produce the handbooks and new parent information in conjunction with the DofAM
  • Organise the school and house photos in liaison with the Senior Master
  • Organisation, preparation and notification for school and SLT detentions
  • Database work
  • Managing and producing various lists/forms eg: car driving list, telephone lists, visiting speaker forms
  • Assist staff with admin associated with Sunday boarders trips
  • Manage mobile phone confiscations
  • Assist with admin for events, eg parents’ evenings, testing days, open events
  • Manage ‘missing pupils’
  • Assist with refreshments for visitors
  • Other general admin as required

  • A pleasant, friendly, outgoing personality and exceptional interpersonal skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent written English and proof-reading skills
  • Highly IT literate with a willingness to learn new software packages
  • An excellent telephone manner
  • Ability to deal confidently with enquiries
  • Discretion and ability to work in confidence
  • Common sense, patience and a good sense of humour
  • Ability to work in a team as well as under own initiative
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Willing to be adaptable and flexible
  • Ability to prioritise work
  • The ability to think and work quickly and calmly whilst under pressure
  • A high standard of personal presentation.
