Job summary

As a key member of the Education Place Planning Team, the role involves undertaking a range of planning functions, including primary, secondary place planning, the client role for the implementation of building schemes, the delivery of education reorganisations, and many Capital projects for primary and secondary phases, but also for special educational needs. This involves taking the strategic lead role for long-term planning for education in Swindon and ensuring that the implications of future demand is thoroughly researched and planned for, leading on the School Place Planning Strategy and to secure the effective implementation and delivery of the key initiatives set out in the Strategy.

The Team works closely with a number of partners and stakeholders, including schools, other Directorates such as Planning, Architecture and Construction, Property and Legal services, Localities, Council Members, Capita, and the DfE.

Person specification

  • You’ll have excellent and successful customer service skills
  • You’ll have extensive experience of working with Schools, Governing Bodies, Members and other customers in a constructive way with excellent stakeholder management skills
  • You’ll be keen to work as part of a team but also on your own initiative
  • You’ll be conscientious, willing to go that extra mile and take responsibility and accountability for your area of work
  • You’ll have excellent and proven communication and interpersonal skills
  • You’ll be able to use IT packages and will be able to analyse and interpret data
  • You’ll have attention to detail with strategic vision
