Our operations function is responsible for signalling, response, operations, and electrical control for the WCS route from London Euston to just south of Crewe.Brief DescriptionAs a Scheme Project Manager [Operations] on West Coast South, you will play a crucial role in managing and delivering critical projects that impact the efficiency and safety of our railway network. You will support the delivery of projects related to operations, ensuring that they are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Your work will directly contribute to the smooth operation of the railway and the safety of all passengers and personnel.Please note the role can be based in London, Milton Keynes or Rugby ROCAbout The Role (External)Across our signalling, operations control, and response functions the Scheme Project Manager will support projects, workstreams and initiatives on behalf of the wider WCS Operations team. The Scheme Project Manager will work closely with the operations projects team and operational managers to deliver a variety of outputs that will make a material difference to our staff, and our passengers and freight users.As part of this role, you will be developing your understanding of Operations; how we help deliver a safe and efficient train service and how we interface with internal and external stakeholders to achieve this. The Scheme Project Manager is expected to learn new skills and gain qualifications with the opportunity to utilise them in the workplace, including:
  • Signalling rules and regulations, via the Initial Signaller Training course and further development
  • Formal project management qualifications, e.g., APM and PRINCE2
  • Investigations
  • Health, safety and risk management, e.g., IOSH
This role is tailored to fit anyone with a strong commitment to learning, developing, and working within a dynamic operating environment. Prior operational or project management knowledge is not required for this role, but demonstrable experience of showing initiative, solving problems, and fostering collaborative working relationships is important for this role.Essential criteria:
  • Demonstrable commitment to learning and personal development
  • Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Possession of a continuous improvement mindset
  • Proven capability in building and maintaining collaborative working relationships.
Desirable criteria:
  • Educated to HND or Degree level
  • Possess an awareness of C&P processes and regulations
  • Operational experience (e.g., signaller, MOM, rostering etc.)
  • Project management experience
