Job OverviewHave you ever wished you could make a difference early in a child or young person’s life to enable them to thrive and grow?An exciting opportunity has arisen within Specialist Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service (S-CAMHS) to join an expanding and dynamic multidisciplinary mental health service within Hywel Dda University Health Board.This Band 6 Primary Mental Health Practitioner post is now open to General, Paediatric and School nurses along with Mental Health Nurses and Allied Health Professionals to join us in preventing and intervening early with mental health needs and building resilience among children and young people in our area.This new post will combine two key functions: firstly, that of providing psychologically informed consultation, training and support to education professionals in schools as part of the roll out of the Schools in-Reach programme; and secondly, providing assessments and interventions to children and adolescents with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.Main duties of the jobThis role require a passion for promoting mental health and emotional wellbeing with children and families as well as education staff. They will aid in the skilling-up of education staff to build confidence when managing the mental health and emotional wellbeing difficulties in children and young people. This will comprise regular delivery of advice and consultation, training, and wellbeing sessions for school staff, as well as the provision of assessments and interventions to children and young people as part of the Welsh Government Mental Health Measures 2010.The post holder will be expected to work flexibly as part of a team to ensure excellent delivery of service provision, including working weekends where required to ensure accessibility and continuity of service delivery. Excellent opportunities will be available for training and professional development and the post holder will receive managerial and clinical supervision.Although desirable, experience in S-CAMH services is not a requirement, and we would encourage interest from a range of candidates with relevant experience.The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.Working for our organisationHywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and its bordering counties.
