Job Overview

We have a vacant post for a 0.6 wte Band 8b Clinical Psychologist, in our Children’s Continuing Care Service within S-CAMHS. This service was established some years ago and has been very much valued by our wider S-CAMHS teams. The service covers the footprint of Hywel Dda UHB but the base is in Carmarthen. There will be strong links with our Clinical Psychologist in the service for Looked After Children, and the post-holder will be part of a friendly and cohesive Psychology service across the wider S-CAMHS. Development of special interests in line with the needs of the service are strongly encouraged. West Wales is a beautiful place to live, especially for those who enjoy outdoor activities. There are good links with the South Wales Doctoral Training Course for Clinical Psychology. The service is forward thinking, and performs well against Welsh Government targets, for waiting times for first appointments.

Main duties of the job

The Children’s Continuing Care Service focuses on providing additional assessment, formulation and intervention for those young people in S-CAMHS who have continuing care needs, and where there is a risk of placement breakdown. There is a strong emphasis on providing consultation and intervention for the system of family and carers around the young person. The successful candidate will assist with the appointment of additional team members. They will be responsible for the clinical lead aspect of the service, and for developing it further when opportunities arise. We will expect the successful candidate to have skills in project management, service delivery and service development. They will also be responsible for service audit, evaluation and monitoring of outcomes, and so they will need to have skills and experience in this area. We would like to develop Psychology input into the wider Children’s Continuing Care Service (physical health related needs) in the future.
