North East Area

Royal Mail is transforming; it’s an exciting period as we adapt and invest in cutting edge technology as we continue to transform into a highly efficient, delivery business for the future. Automated parcel ‘super’ hubs are opening, our green credentials are growing as our vehicles are going electric and most importantly, we put people at the heart of our business.

With a property portfolio of 2,500 and the UKs largest fleet of approx. 50,000 vehicles, this is a great time to join a UK wide, large scale organisation. Our organisation is huge and so is our safety responsibility. To support this, we have several vacancies for Safety Technicians to provide expert safety advice to a defined area.

The role
Working with the Strategic Safety Business Partner, Safety team and senior stakeholders, you’ll be accountable for a large geographical area to support the implementation of safety standards and programmes to reduce safety risks and impacts nationally.

You’ll be responsible for completing comprehensive annual integrated audits for 30-40 sites which will include delivery offices, collection hubs and admin buildings. This will involve taking ownership of the planning, scheduling, conducting audits and sharing the outputs to drive safety, improve performance and ensure legal compliance.

As the safety subject matter expert, you’ll provide support to operational and non-operational leaders to ensure the effective development of safety resources and provide a professional advice service to leaders to drive consistent safety approaches and incident reductions initiatives within their business function.

You’ll represent the function at local forums, providing safety subject matter expertise to operations, promote safe behaviours, challenge unsafe conditions, and encourage local consultation arrangements with safety representatives.

With a passion for safety, you’ll deliver safety coaching, training, and upskilling to the management teams, driving compliance to the Safety Health and Environment Management System (SHEMS).

The role is big, with potentially demanding timescales, however the rewards will be vast. You’ll have ownership of your audit plans, manage your own diary, priorities and schedule your own site audits. Furthermore, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your safety career with one of the UKs largest organisations.
