Job Role: Health & Safety Manager - Lifting Coordinator

Location: Blyth

ISG have recently secured a £500m new build Battery Gigaplant project in Blyth. We are currently recruiting for a Health and Safety Manager, specifically responsible for managing all lifting activities on the project ensuring the company fully discharges its legal duties through the implementation of the company lift strategy.

As part of the Health and Safety Department you will be accountable and report to the Project HSE Lead, with day to day coordination with the Project Managers and trade lifting Appointed Persons. You will be responsible for influencing ISG project teams, the supply chain and other key stakeholders to deliver the highest standards of lifting and health and safety performance.

What will you be doing?
  • Act as a source of competent lifting advice across the project, providing advice and assistance to the Directors, project teams and managers on health and safety matters.
  • Advise, guide and coach ISG personnel with the implementation of the company Lifting Policy & Management System
  • Review all submitted subcontractor RAMS relevant to Lifting activities with the construction manager and ensure all method statements and risk assessments are current with regards to the evolving tasks.
  • Undertake active monitoring across the site, taking an engaging approach with the workforce.
  • Supporting the planning stage with a review to ensure safe and buildable solutions are incorporated at the outset.
  • Support the development and implementation of project safety initiatives.
  • Produce a weekly lifting safety report for the project manager and BV H&S Lead.
  • Supporting the construction teams in ensuring all lifting safety measures are appropriate, relevant and in place where required. Takes a pro-active approach when issues are identified.
  • Liaise with trade contractors, designers, suppliers, client, enforcement agencies and other relevant parties.
  • Investigate lifting incidents and produce detailed factual reports identifying root causes and recommendations for improvement, ensuring lessons learned are communicated effectively across organisation
  • Lead by setting a personal example and actively promote at all levels the company’s commitment to effective Health and Safety.
  • Engages with the whole supply chain to promote safety and initiates regular safety campaigns to ensure project wide engagement
  • Acts and intervenes where necessary to ensure all works are conducted safety. The safety manager must never walk by.
About You
  • Experience in the managing of lifting activities across a diverse construction site
  • Advanced knowledge of UK health and safety legislation relating to lifting activities
  • Must be passionate about work, committed to excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Confident in making decisions within policy guidelines.
  • Ability to produce high quality reports
  • Able to use MS Office applications
  • Must be organised and prioritise own work to deliver on time through managing time effectively.
  • Must be able to build trust and confidence through open communications and informing colleagues about issues that will affect their role.
  • Must be able to use a range of communication skills and adapt these as necessary.
  • Must be able to recognise own strengths and weaknesses and draw on the strengths of different people.
  • Must be able to motivate a team to achieve one common goal.
Qualifications
  • CPCS Accreditation as an Appointed Person or LEEA Accreditation as an Appointed Person (Essential)
  • CPCS Crane Operator certification, Mobile, Tower or Crawler crane (desirable)
  • CPCS Accreditation as a Banksman Slinger
  • Strong knowledge of BS7121-3 Safe use of Cranes
  • NEBOSH certification (desirable)
  • IOSH or Equivalent Accident/Incident investigation qualification
  • Member of IOSH - (desirable)
  • Supplementary training in PASMA, IPAF, Advanced First Aid
  • Ability to Visually inspect Lifting Accessories & Wire ropes
