Britannia Royal Naval College (BRNC) is the head office for the Universities Department. It provides support to over 1000 personnel based across the United Kingdom. The department supports 16 University Royal Naval Units (URNUs) and the Sponsored Undergraduates (Medics, Dentists, Bursars, STEM Undergraduates).

The National Training Centre Executive Officer (NTCEO) is responsible for leading and delivering all national training including RYA accredited courses from URNU Cambridge. The role forms a pivotal part of the national URNU syllabus and is crucial to the successful delivery of water-based activities for hundreds of Officer Cadets each year. The role is co-ordination and delivery focused, so leading the team of instructors is critical for interpersonal and business success.

The NTCEO will use their expertise to maintain all resources including canoes, kayaks, sail craft, the associated equipment and ancillaries ensuring they are fit for purpose and available for training. Communication will be vital to collaborate closely with internal and external partners, de-conflicting bookings where necessary.

This exciting new role is advertised at 37 hours per week and there will be some elements of weekend working throughout the year.

Job description

The NTCEO will:

  • Manage and Administer Centre Bookings.
  • Act as the RYA centre principal. Liaise directly with the RYA, to ensure that the centre remains aligned with regards to all course content, structure, and delivery of all RYA courses.
  • Ensure appropriately qualified instructors are available to support training.
  • Handle the provision of all RYA training materials and certification.
  • Lead the maintenance and delivery of all maritime training assets operated by the Centre.
  • Arrange the maintenance and availability of all safety equipment. Ensure that the centre always follows the relevant safety regulations.
  • Organise the maintenance of the centre’s boat and canoe trailers.
  • Provide performance reporting function to CO URNU Cambridge on all course instructors.
  • Control the centres finances on behalf of CO UNRU Cambridge.

Person specification

Essential:

The following essential skills are required: -

  • A background in the delivery of practical maritime and theory-based RYA courses.
  • Trusted to work independently
  • Evidence of attention to detail
  • Good background and experience in all aspects of boat maintenance
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications and networked systems
  • A full UK Driving Licence.
