The Department of Plant Sciences is seeking to recruit a Research Technician for 1 year. This post is financially supported by the funds from the Royal Society awarded to Dr Jani Bolla. The work is to be conducted in his lab in the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Oxford, South Parks Road, Oxford, OX1 3RB. The postholder will support ongoing research that aims to unravel the molecular architecture of the TOC complex using structural tools.
The role of the individual will be as follows: (i) to be responsible for the generation and maintenance of various transgenic plant lines; (ii) to grow a large number of plants that will be needed for the downstream studies involving chloroplast isolation; (iii) to assist in chloroplast isolation and protein extraction experiments.
The successful candidate will be educated to at least a masters’ degree level with relevant experience in molecular and plant biology and will work closely with other group members to assist them with already running chloroplast isolation. They must work as part of a team, be willing to learn new methods and skills, and have excellent communication skills. The role will also include protocol development. The postholder is expected to be organised, with excellent record keeping and have the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, including training junior members in the group. Desirable experience includes previous experience with growing plants (Arabidopsis thaliana) and purifying proteins for structural analysis, although training will be provided.
