Applications are invited for a Research Assistant (Agri-environmental data) with the HESTIA project.
We are looking for a Research Assistant to consolidate agri-environmental data and upload it to the newly developed HESTIA agri-environmental data platform. Your work will help generate data on the environmental impacts of different food products, with a focus on greenhouse gases and biodiversity impacts. Specifically, the role will focus on uploading data from ~90 published peer-reviewed studies. You will start by focusing on data from studies describing quinoa or other Chenopodium species, and in the process learn about these crops and their sustainability implications. You will then focus on uploading data for 12 product categories identified as sources of imported greenhouse gas emissions into the UK.
The HESTIA data platform (http://hestia.earth/) develops the research of Poore & Nemecek (2018) Science. It provides: 1) a standardised data structure for agri-environmental data; 2) a large and growing platform of data which is consistently formatted; and 3) models which allow farmers or other users to calculate their environmental impacts. You will be part of a motivated team of environmental scientists, software developers, and behaviour change specialists. The project team will be based within the Interdisciplinary Centre for Conservation Science in the Department of Biology and within the Oxford Martin School.
You will hold (or be close to completion of) a relevant postgraduate degree; or hold an undergraduate degree and equivalent relevant experience. The successful candidate should have a strong attention to details and strong numeracy skills. They will be able to work confidently under pressure and have good written and spoken communication skills. This role will involve interacting effectively with both senior and junior team members, in addition to industry partners. You will need to be able to work both independently, and as a member of a team.
