Government Business Services (GBS) is a large business unit within the Cabinet Office with around 610 staff. It brings together back office services across government, and supports the Civil Service with high-volume HR and finance processes, aligned to the Government’s modernisation agenda. GBS was established in August 2020, and includes Shared Services, the Government Recruitment Service, Civil Service and Royal Mail Pensions, and the Platforms and Services unit, which supports these. GBS delivers services for over 400,000 civil servants across government. It supports 1.5 million Civil Service and Royal Mail pension scheme members and provides recruitment services for around 70 percent of the Civil Service.Government Shared Services (GSS) is a unit within GBS in the Cabinet Office. We support the Cabinet Office’s aims to ensure the delivery of the finest public services, and improve the efficiency of government.
Our Overarching Objectives Are
We are the centre of expertise working across departments to make it easier for civil servants to use platforms for HR, finance and payroll. We recently launched the new Shared Services Strategy for Government, which will deliver services that are better value, and cut through processes which cost time and money.
You will need to develop effective and credible working relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders, including external suppliers. You will be required to support the Relationship Managers in their roles to advise, challenge and influence as required to ensure the best outcome for the organisation.
You will be responsible for working with a Relationship Manager to support one of the five clusters and their programme teams to drive implementation of the strategy with a specific focus on the formation of the shared service centres.
You will support the Relationship Manager in their role as the single point of contact between GSS and the cluster, knowing when to manage risks and when to escalate, using strong stakeholder management and communication skills, to coordinate information into the area for which you are responsible for.
You will work with departments and organisations within your cluster to build consensus and drive delivery.

This is a permanent role and is offered to applicants both inside and outside the Civil Service.
This role is at the Cabinet Office Grade SEO level with a salary of £37,300 - £40,248. Annual salary increases will depend upon individual performance and contribution to the organisation’s success. In addition there will be the opportunity to earn performance related bonuses.

Flexible working including job-share arrangements may be considered for this role.
Leave allowances
25 days’ paid leave per annum, with an incremental rise of 1 per year, to a maximum of 30 days after 5 years. In addition, full-time staff receive eight public holidays and the Queen’s Birthday privilege day as well as competitive maternity, paternity, parental and adoption leave. Existing Civil Servants will retain their current terms annual leave and privilege day entitlement.
Probation
Staff new to the Civil Service will normally be required to serve a six month probationary period.

The post will be based in Cabinet Office buildings in, Cardiff, Glasgow and York.

No relocation costs will be available.
