About the job

Summary

The FSA is a non-ministerial department of over 1300 people, with a big vision – to drive change in the food system so that it delivers “food we can trust”. Our primary goal is to continue to protect public health and consumers’ wider interest in food. As we have now exited the EU the FSA faces a significant period of change and activity.

An exciting opportunity has arisen as part of the National Food Crime Unit.

The National Food Crime Unit (NFCU) is part of the FSA’s Operations Directorate and provides a law enforcement response to serious fraud and related criminality within the food supply chain. Doing this relies heavily on our ability to gather and develop intelligence to identify criminality.
The vacant Regional Intelligence Officer (RIO) role is part of the Outreach and Prevention team, and is part of the NFCU Intelligence, Strategy and Prevention Command. The RIO’s role is to contribute to the delivery of the FSA and NFCU mission through:
  • Developing relationships across Local Authorities, Law Enforcement partners to generate and develop intelligence gathering within their geographical area.
  • Delivering results in line with the Prepare element of the NFCU’s 4P (Prepare, Protect, Prevent and Pursue) strategic and tactical plans to deal with food fraud.
  • Delivering results in line with the NFCU’s Control Strategy and Strategic Objectives.

Job description

Duties include:

  • Leading on building and maintaining meaningful relationships with public sector law enforcement partners within their specific region, by representing the FSA and NFCU in established forums and providing advice on food crime matters across law enforcement bodies.

  • Leading on presenting to stakeholders and partners on FSA and NFCU work and objectives to further their knowledge of the NFCU role and capabilities.

  • Performing the lead liaison role in furtherance of investigative objectives on all NFCU investigations conducted within their specific geographic region whether the wider NFCU are leading, supporting or co-ordinating that particular investigation. This will include having lead responsibility to co-ordinate with others the Unit response to specified tactical priorities.
Although the role is home based, you will need a current UK driving licence (Manual or Automatic) and be prepared and have the ability to drive to carry out your role across the specified geographical areas (likely to be 1 day per week). It is desirable, but not essential that you live in or near the South East England region. The successful post holder would need to cover their travel costs and time to the edge of the region if they live outside of the current regional boundary.
