Job Description

We are Cloud-Native Services & Compute (CNSC), an organisation within NewsTech whose purpose is to be the engine of transformation for NewsTech and our business units around the world to better achieve their goals in a faster and more cost-effective manner. We want to be recognized by product engineering & editorial staff in all of News Corp’ global business units as a key enabler in their ability to achieve their goals and ambitions.


We are looking for three Regional Directors of Infrastructure Operations who will play key strategic and operational roles within the Cloud Native Services & Compute (CNSC) organisation of NewsTech to help in achieving our shared services vision for all News

Corp companies.


The successful candidate will be required to work with the other members of the CNSC senior leadership team, as well as End User Services to deliver the strategic long-term plan for the organisation whilst also setting and implementing the tactical direction needed for the infrastructure and end-user service needs of their respective region, in concert with organisation-wide standards.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for implementation and operation of our infrastructure within their respective region including data centres, network services, physical & cloud computing infrastructure, telephony services, and storage.
  • Managing the people, budget, assets and resources required to maintain, support and improve our service offering to our partners within their respective region, aligned to global NewsTech standards.
  • Ensure the availability and integrity of all systems and infrastructure for which NewsTech is responsible for, and which are used to enable business capabilities and services within the region.
  • Contribute to infrastructure strategy, vision, roadmap development and execution, identifying opportunities for automation, cost savings, and service quality improvement.
  • Support innovation both within the region and across the organisation through peers and seek to leverage industry trends and innovations that can create business value consistent with the company’s requirements and expectations.
  • Responsible for financial aspects of infrastructure operations, working together with other areas of NewsTech. This includes purchasing, vendor management and negotiation, budgeting, cost/benefit analysis and budget review.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of policies and objectives to ensure successful operations whilst maximising return on investment for the organisation.
  • Direct team(s) within their respective region responsible for supporting the infrastructure needed to support our global business units. This includes the Infrastructure Operations, Product Operations and Networking groups within CNSC, as well as Service Desk, Service Assurance and Deskside Services and other local teams as required from time to time.
  • Contribute to strategic and tactical data centre consolidation and ultimately elimination within their respective region.
  • Engage in a formal governance mechanism to establish and monitor effective controls for the processes and functions performed by infrastructure operations teams.
  • Contribute to the development, and drive the implementation and maintenance of global infrastructure and operations policies and procedures, standards, governance processes and performance metrics.
  • Maintain regional technology standards across all programs to align with global standards.
  • Collaborates with the office of the Chief Information Security Officer to ensure infrastructure and operations embrace and apply security strategy.
  • Collaborate with the other functions within NewsTech such as the Business Operations and Architecture teams to ensure infrastructure and operations embrace and apply the overarching NewsTech and News Corp strategies.
  • Develop leaders within their respective region in order to ensure knowledge is shared across the team to facilitate global support capabilities, including the development and implementation of a follow-the-sun model for infrastructure operations and incident support with their fellow Regional Director peers.
  • Build successful stakeholder relationships with other organisations and business leaders within News Corp by developing a clear understanding of business needs, acting as a trusted advisor, and ensuring cost-effective delivery of services to meet those needs.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology (preferred).
  • 8+ years in an IT management and/or leadership role.
  • Experience and knowledge of technologies including but not limited to cloud services, on-premise data centres, databases, SANS, networking, telecommunications and software engineering.
  • Experience and knowledge of infrastructure security environments, including but not limited to end-point protection, data centre security and cloud security.
  • Specific knowledge and experience of public cloud providers required.
  • Proven experience in driving transformational change.
  • Proven experience in working across an at times complex, matrix organisation.

Unusual Challenges/Circumstances:

  • The role is expected to be part of a global team and may, therefore, require global travel to our offices in geographies outside that in which the successful candidate resides.
  • The candidate will need to work with individuals and businesses in all corners of the world, and as such may need to participate in activities outside of normal working hours in order to ensure maximum global participation.
