We have an excellent opportunity in our Environmental Safety Group at Heysham 2 Power Station that might just be for you!The OpportunityAs a Radiological Protection Engineer, you’ll be part of the team responsible for delivering the required standards and processes in Radiological Protection and Discharge Standards/ Environmental Protection. This ensures the safe and reliable operation of the nuclear power plant in accordance with all regulations, licences and requirements of external and internal compliance organisations.Your focus will be on operational radiological protection and, following suitable training and development, you’ll be expected to take on the role of Accredited Health Physicist.Pay, Benefits And CultureWe can offer a competitive salary from £40,069 - £71,779, and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Company Agreement as well as your existing salary, competence, experience and qualifications. What You’ll Be DoingAs a Radiological Protection Engineer your responsibilities will include:- Providing radiological protection advice in support of operations, maintenance and engineering activities
- Reviewing outage programmes and developing detailed radiological protection plans for outages.
- Providing technical advice and oversight of the site’s arrangements for the assessment of radiation doses, the management of radiological monitoring instrumentation, the management of protective clothing and equipment, for control of radioactive material and for radioactive material movement and transport
- Developing and delivering radiological protection training; advising and mentoring other departments to increase their understanding of working safely with radioactive materials.
- Contributing to the arrangements for the accumulation, storage and disposal of solid radioactive wastes
- Contributing to the arrangements for the assessment of radioactive discharges to the environment and the associated environmental monitoring programme.
