Hinkley Point C site, Permanent, Competitive Salary & Benefits

A career that will deliver change. Together, we’ll help Britain achieve net zero.

The Opportunity

Hinkley Point C (HPC) is one of the largest engineering projects in the world and when operational will be the most complex nuclear installation in the UK. Bringing the plant to life is the job of the HPC commissioning team which will lead the transition from construction to operation. We are currently recruiting exceptional people to join our I&C Commissioning Delivery team in a number of key roles.

Every member of the Commissioning team plays a part in providing assurance to our regulators that we can safely load fuel into the HPC reactors and begin the journey of providing safe, clean electricity to meet around 7% of the UK’s demand for generations to come.

The HPC plant includes a variety of I&C technologies, both computerised and non-computerised, implementing systems that perform monitoring, control and protection functions for nuclear and conventional plant. You will be part of the team on site that prepares, supervises, performs, analyses and reports the thousands of commissioning tests that are required to deliver the evidence to demonstrate that all of these systems fulfil their safety and functional requirements. But first, you will spend time in one of the teams performing functional testing in France or Germany prior to delivery of the systems to HPC site.

The centralised I&C scope is based on three technology platforms implementing diverse and redundant systems at Levels 1 and 2 of the I&C architecture, providing the interface to the plant and to the control room operators to facilitate safe and efficient operation of the power station under all conditions.

The Role

The Commissioning Engineer - Centralised I&C (multiple roles available) will be a member of one of the five I&C Commissioning Delivery teams, reporting to an I&C Team Manager.

The Centralised I&C systems are being developed in France and Germany and will be undergoing functional testing at those facilities during the period 2021 to 2023. After a short period of induction and introduction to the project in the Bristol area, these roles will be based at one of the test facilities for a period expected to be between 12 and 24 months. You will work as an integrated member of the test team, making a full contribution to the performance of the tests while at the same time gaining familiarity with the system technology, the engineering tools and the operation of the functional applications. On returning to UK you will be based at HPC site where you will apply your skills and knowledge to the commissioning of these systems on the two generating units.

During the execution phase of HPC commissioning from 2023 to 2027, the Commissioning Programme will maintain strong operational links with the technical and engineering offices in Bristol, Gloucester, Paris and Tours to which occasional travel may be needed. It is however the project’s expectation that every opportunity should be taken to use technology to minimise national and international business travel.

* Flexible and willing to be expatriated to work in France or Germany
* Comfortable in a dynamic and multi-cultural environment.
* Understands the need for technical and administrative rigour in the nuclear industry.
