Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a mechanical systems installation Lead Design Engineer in Airframe Wing Research and Technology at Airbus Filton, primarily on the Wing of Tomorrow project, but also supporting other R&T activities as they develop including the ZEROe programme.

The Wing of Tomorrow project is developing a range of advanced structures and systems installation technologies to enable a high volume low cost wing for the next all-new Airbus single aisle aircraft. The project will culminate in the assembly and equipping of three full scale wing demonstrators.

Airbus in Filton is typically accountable for wing, fuel systems and landing gear, but due to the integrated nature of R&T, is also involved in the broader aircraft development.

You will have a design engineering background in mechanical/fluid systems installation.

You will be engaged in the design, development, analysis and testing of new technologies for mechanical and fluid systems installation components and assemblies, including responsibility for technical deliverables, risks and opportunities.

You will be working collaboratively with a range of suppliers and partners, including coordination of regular meetings and associated development activities.

The jobholder may be functionally responsible for the daily management of up to two internal engineers and/or small subcontracted work packages as required to discharge their overall accountabilities.

The job holder may have technical approval signatory for design deliverables but would also have the opportunity to work towards receiving delegation as part of the role if not already held.

The role is based in Airbus Filton in Bristol and will require occasional travel for business. Such travel is likely to include visits to Airbus Broughton plus various UK suppliers and partners engaged on the Wing of Tomorrow project.

The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs.

General requirements from skills profile: Mechanical System Installation Detailed Design. Design of mechanical system installation components and assemblies that are optimized in terms of weight, cost, performance, production/assembly requirements while highest safety of the product is assured using appropriate design tools.. The main deliverable is Definition Dossier for Manufacturing and Assembly (Component and Final Assembly Line).
