Trainee Graduate QA Technician - Oldham - Graduate or Progression Opportunity

Park Cakes is a c£180 million business which manufactures cake and desserts to supply the own brand products of major retailers. The vacancy is at our Oldham site which supplies mostly to M & S.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone with excellent organisation and people skills to start a career in the Food Industry as a Trainee QA Technician reporting to the Factory Technical Manager.

Your role will work alongside production areas, educating, challenging and troubleshooting to prevent and resolve quality issues and ensure high quality standards are met.

The role would suit a confident graduate ideally with a degree or equivalent in a food discipline but other graduates will be considered. Equally we would consider someone with existing QA/QC experience looking to further their career.

Full training will be given for the role, it is important that you can work shifts at weekends as although you will initially be trained on a Monday to Friday shift, your normal shift will be Saturday through to Wednesday.

Example Duties

Organise and attend QC panels on site and ensure corrective actions are followed up and communicated

  • Attend trials and product launches.
  • Investigation of Customer Complaints and attending Customer complaints meetings
  • Troubleshoot and supporting Operations / Technical in resolving issues
  • Ensuring foreign body controls are in place and adequate in production areas
  • Ensuring technical systems are in place in their factory / area and are being followed
  • Monitor the standards of hygiene, food safety, GMP, traceability, allergen management, legality and quality
  • Compiling, issuing and training of process control records and quality standards.
  • Auditing and monitoring of food safety, quality and legality within the factory.
  • Internal Auditing (systems, GMP, CCP audits)
  • Calibrate key equipment
  • Carrying out swabbing (Micro and allergen) as and when required
  • Ensuring their area / factory is to the best GMP standards ready for unannounced audits / customer visits

Skills and Experience

  • Ideally a graduate or equivalent with a degree in a food related discipline but other graduates will be considered, equally we would consider someone with existing QA/QC experience.
  • Some work experience would be preferable.
  • Confidence and communication skills are key as you will need to challenge others and build relationships.
  • Organisational skills, the ability to prioritise is important as you will be working in a busy environment were you will be expected to make critical decisions using judgement and confidence.
  • IT skills such as excel, word and power point are essential as is a good standard of numeracy.
  • Applicants will be required to work on their own without supervision.
  • Understanding of Food Safety and Food Safety Systems such as HACCP
  • You must be able to work on a Saturday to Wednesday shift but must also be flexible to change your working hours at peak times.

Hours: Initially you will be trained on days but you will then be required on a Saturday to Wednesday shift working Sunday to Tuesday 7am – 3pm and Wednesday 7am to 2pm.

Package:Salary for this position is £21k initially with progression available to £25k to recognise consistent weekend working and a full QA position + 25 days holiday a year and 8 statutory holidays, Pension scheme, Discount scheme on purchases from high street retailers
