We invite applications from candidates with research interests that can complement or enhance the School’s existing research strengths in Artificial Intelligence. The appointee will help us to build on our success in the recent REF 2021 exercise with 96.3% of our outputs being classified as world-leading or internationally-excellent. The School of Computing has an international reputation for its research incomputational intelligence and data science, regularly publishing in the top venues in the field.

This work spans two of our research groups:

  • Computational Intelligence carries out research in machine learning, deep learning, data mining, knowledge discovery, biologically inspired algorithms, information visualization, robotics applications and the modelling of human attention and reasoning. The group also performs interdisciplinary research in collaboration with researchers in the life sciences, e.g. in biology, medicine and healthcare.
  • Data Science includes research in computational creativity, biomedical signal analysis, large-scale distributed processing, mobile health, machine learning and natural language processing. The group focuses on research with an impact to benefit the wider public, and has a strong emphasis on interdisciplinary research.

As a Lecturer in Artificial Intelligence you will:

  • Undertake teaching of both undergraduate and postgraduate students, including the development of new modules and providing support for student learning.
  • Develop and extend your existing successful research career, writing research papers of the highest quality and securing external funding.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the School on course development, delivery and assessment, taking on appropriate management and administrative responsibilities.
  • Exploit opportunities to engage with industrial, commercial, governmental and charitable organisations to gain innovation funding, transfer knowledge and create impact.
  • Develop collaborations with colleagues nationally and internationally to enhance research opportunities.

To succeed in this role you will:

  • Have a PhD in a discipline relevant to computer science or similar professional experience.
  • Have experience of teaching computing at higher education level.
  • Have a recent track record of publication in leading international journals or conferences in the area of Cyber Security
  • An understanding of the UK’s funding landscape and a plan for developing research income.
  • The ability to make a strong contribution to the research undertaken in the School in an area relevant to the Computational Intelligence or Data Science groups
