Position Description

This is an exciting opportunity for a Property & Casualty Underwriter to join the successful Leeds Commercial team.

The purpose of this role is to contribute towards delivery of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) through the underwriting of relevant products in the market whilst maintaining technically excellent underwriting standards and building up relationships with both internal and external customers. The Underwriter handles cases, upholding underwriting authority at all times and delivering excellent service to our customers.

You will play an active role in developing the branch account in terms of growth and profitability; a key part of this is broker visibility by way of visits and supporting panel aligned business developers. You will also be accountable for engaging fully in the cross sell culture here in Leeds; ensuring close collaboration with your colleagues in other departments will be essential to support our ambitious growth plans.

Skills & Experience

Good level of experience in underwriting both Property & Casualty insurance

  • Working towards ACII qualification

  • Knowledge of the UK General Insurance market is essential, including strong existing trading relationships in the Leeds and/or Newcastle markets

Strong ability to build, develop and maintain broker relationships

  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills

  • Strong analytical capability and technical competence

  • Able to organise own workload to meet tight deadlines and support the team and branch in delivering excellent service levels.

  • A good team player. Supportive to others with an enthusiastic and positive attitude.

  • Resilient and adaptable to change.

  • Be self-driven and proactive in development of own skills and technical knowledge.

  • Full working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
