We are looking for all levels of Project Managers to work on our EDF Framework at Hartlepool Power Station, Durham.

As a Project Manager you will be accountable to the Portfolio Project Manager for successful delivery of all aspects of their assigned projects, providing support by leading, coaching and mentoring Project Managers as required to improve team performance and competence.

Costain supports EDF Energy Generation to maximise the lifespan of its eight UK nuclear power stations and prepare for defuelling and decommissioning. Costain’s role is to provide project controls and commercial managed services to portfolios and programmes of work across EDF’s UK nuclear power stations. As part of this work Costain will develop people capability in core project control skills and provide specialist support to EDF’s Central Technical Organisation to improve project performance and deliver cost efficiencies.

Key Responsibilities & Outcomes
  • Identifying, implementing and complying with applicable safety, environmental and quality standards, company procedures and policies and other relevant legislative and regulatory requirements
  • Managing the performance of other Project Managers and taking responsibility for the delivery of either a large complex project or a small portfolio of projects
  • Acting as coach and mentor to other Project Managers and helping them in developing their project management knowledge and experience
  • Applying the company project controls standards and developing, maintaining, reporting and trending an accurate project baseline
  • Maintaining a project team containing all the resources required to successfully deliver the project
  • Leading and coaching the project team members creating a positive team working environment
  • Identifying and assessing risks and implementing effective risk mitigation strategies
  • Managing assigned projects from concept to close out and maintaining effective integrated project execution strategies and plans
  • Implementing and maintaining effective communication to the project team and all stakeholders including Station interactions to ensure full understanding and commitment to the deliverables
  • Controlling scope and cost to the agreed project baseline
  • Maintain regular involvement of and communications with the Project Sponsor
  • Ensuring that any control arrangements identified, as part of the implementation of Licence Conditions

Knowledge, Skills And Experience
  • Good, detailed understanding of a wide range of project management competencies and be able to evaluate and adopt them within a complex project environment
  • Able coach and mentor other project managers in the understanding and applying project management competencies
  • Experience of executing most of the project management competencies by managing a number of complex projects
  • Knowledge of engineering, design, procurement, safety case, construction and installation/commissioning management and commercial contracting
  • Experience of brown-field projects
  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of relevant Health and Safety and Environment legislation including CDM and the actions required to achieve compliance along with a proven track record of working within highly regulated environments with high safety standards and culture
  • Good understanding of the needs of quality and how quality is assured and controlled along with relevant experience of commercial, contractual and financial project drivers
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to develop relationships and maintain effective networks and be results-focussed tempered with a team-centred approach
  • Experience of dealing with a wide range of both internal and external stakeholders
  • A strong conflict manager with a firm and assertive approach but take the analytical approach with a “can do” problem solving ability

Qualifications
  • Ideally degree educated in engineering or related subject, and a chartered engineer (or equivalent professional qualification) but not essential
  • Ideally, but not essential APMP project management qualification or equivalent
