What is the Role?

At SSE, we are currently working on several high-profile projects which are ensuring we can provide sustainable and reliable energy to all. To achieve our Net Zero ambitions, we are seeking graduates who are eager to gain the knowledge and experience needed to work towards a Project Manager role. You will need the drive to become a project management professional ultimately leading on major infrastructure projects.

Graduates will follow either a generalist or specialist pathway depending on your degree discipline and career aspirations. Generalists will gain exposure across multiple departments throughout the 2-year programme, shaping the programme to suit your individual interests and career goals. Specialists will work with experts in their specialism, gaining exposure within a business area for the duration of their graduate programme which can last between 12 months and 2 years. Both pathways have the aim of providing experience that with lead to a substantive post.

You could be working with our engineers on the selection of appropriate technologies to meet project requirements, coordination of key surveys & studies, coordinating initial design works, acquisition of land rights & wayleaves and submission of Planning Applications. Or you could be working with our business development teams, focusing on new innovations and projects.

Building and maintaining productive and enduring relationships with Contractors, Stakeholders, Communities & the public to support sustainable delivery of projects is key to this role so you will need to be a strong communicator with great interpersonal skills.

We have roles available in the following business areas and locations:

Enterprise

In our Enterprise business, we have project management positions within our land, property and consents teams, private networks, and sectors teams. Graduates will add value throughout their programme in a specialist role. We are looking for candidates with degree in Business Studies, Engineering, Real Estate, Land Management and Non-engineering degree disciplines. The base locations for the project management positions within Enterprise are flexible.

Thermal

In our Thermal business, we have project management and commercial engineering positions within our business development and development teams based at our sites in Leeds, London, Glasgow, and Perth. Graduates will add value throughout their programme in a specialist role. We are looking for candidates with degrees in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Geography, or a relevant Engineering discipline.

Transmission

In our Transmission business, we have Project Management positions based across Scotland, inclusive of Inverness, Glasgow, Perth, Aberdeen. Graduates will add value to our Offshore and Onshore Delivery teams in a specialist role. SSEN Transmission are currently working on a number of high-profile transmission projects which are ensuring our transmission network is able to transmit clean renewable energy whilst being safe, efficient, and structurally sound, therefore providing sustainable and reliable energy to all. We are looking for candidates with degrees in a relevant Engineering discipline, Construction Management, Project Management, or other STEM related degree.
