Programme Architect
The role
As our Programme Architect here at TalkTalk, you’ll be a key leader within IT Architecture defining cross-cutting solutions for our business initiatives to deliver on our company objectives.
Here you’ll own the vision and development of project architecture, across multiple domains whilst maintaining an end-to-end view of the individual solutions which make up a project and the overall roadmap, including the high-level estimation process, which defines potential complexity and risk.
The team
In your role as Programme Architect, you’ll play a key role in our Architecture Practice which contains several teams including Enterprise, Programme, Project and Lead Solution Architects, working across all functional areas of TalkTalk.
The Project Architect team you’ll lead specialises in the designs for cross-domain solutions that span our Consumer, Direct and Wholesale divisions at TalkTalk, where the product set spans everything we deliver including broadband, TV, high-speed Ethernet and corporate network solutions, across the full product lifecycle.
Your responsibilities
  • As Programme Architect you’ll own the development of project architectures across the business, infrastructure or functional areas and the preparation of technical plans within a change programme.
  • You’ll provide advice on technical aspects of solution development and integration, including requests for changes and deviations from specifications, whilst ensuring that relevant technical strategies, policies, standards and practices, including security, are applied correctly.
  • Designing large and/or complex systems, you’ll adopt and adapt appropriate systems design methods, tools and techniques, whilst selecting appropriately from predictive (plan-driven) approaches or adaptive (iterative/agile) approaches to ensure they are applied effectively.
  • You’ll undertake impact analysis on major design options and trade-offs, make recommendations, assess and manage associated risks, and contribute to the development of systems design policies and standards and selection of architecture components.
  • Reviewing others’ designs to ensure the selection of appropriate technology, efficient use of resources, coding standards and integration of multiple systems and technology, you’ll ensure that the project design balances functional and non-functional requirements.
  • You’ll identify and facilitate the communications and relationship needs of stakeholder groups, whilst being the single point of contact for developing, maintaining and working on stakeholder engagement strategies and plans, to facilitate business decision-making processes.
  • Managing a team of Project Architects’ day-to-day activities, you’ll allocate work packages and provide support, guidance and mentoring.
  • You’ll actively maintain expert-level knowledge and provide definitive and expert advice, whilst overseeing advice provided by others, consolidating expertise from multiple sources, including third-party experts, to ensure knowledge sharing and the achievement of organisational objectives.
To be successful in the role
  • Proven as a Programme Architect, Managing Architect or similar, who’s line managed other Architects.
  • The ability to shape and challenge projects, processes and ways of working, in dynamic, ever-changing software design and development environments.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, both internally and with third-party suppliers.
  • Solid understanding of TOGAF principles, ideally applied in the telecoms industry.
  • Led high-level estimating and design governance, with ad-hoc coding standard reviews, underpinned by a strong understanding of technology and articulating risks/assumptions.
  • Previous experience using CRM, PEGA and/or Salesforce would be advantageous.
