Production Shift Supervisor


Location: Outskirts of York - Own transport is necessary
Salary: £42,000 with possibly overtime
Hours: Full-time permanent contract

12-hour shifts, on a 4 week basis, both days (6am-6pm) and nights (6pm-6am), working 14 out of every 28 days with every other weekend off!

Gi Group Scarborough are recruiting for an experienced Production Shift Supervisor based on the outskirts of York. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the team, production processes and efficient operation of the mill, organising the resources, people and planning.


You will provide direction to the team in a hands-on capacity to ensure the production plan is fully achieved on time and in compliance with relevant internal and external health, safety, environment, quality, cost and output standards and meet Company KPIs.

Key Duties of Production Shift Supervisor:


  • Promote a culture of people safety by championing best practices in these areas and ensuring accountability and adherence to Company standards.
  • Understand the daily production demands and ensure that production needs are met.
  • Communicate KPIs to the team so aware of expectations and meet targets.
  • Organise and manage the daily workflow of the team ensuring effective and timely completion of tasks, including labour planning, holidays, overtime organisation.
  • Train and motivate the team to drive maximum efficiencies, productivity, feed safety, quality and engagement.
  • Organising training and development and maintaining the team skill competency matrix.
  • Responsible for personnel decisions related to recruiting, performance, feedback, disciplinary and absence management actions for direct reports.
  • Coordinate production effectively via shift handover and the daily operational review.
  • Ensure working areas are kept clean and tidy and maintained to required standards.
  • Prompt, accurate investigation and resolution of day-to-day issues.
  • Use of problems solving tools and knowledge sharing to drive continuous improvement.
  • Manage and build cross-functional team relationships.
  • Participate as an active member of the management team, solving problems, improving efficiency, customer and quality focus and team working.
  • Other tasks and projects as assigned.

  • Food processing and manufacturing experience - essential
  • Previous health & safety system experience - essential

  • Knowledge of lean / modern manufacturing principles - desirable
  • Experience of computerised control systems - desirable
  • Counterbalance / FLT licence - desirable
  • IOSH certification - desirable
