Production Engineering Team Leader – Poole – £Competitive
Our client based in Poole are looking for a Production Engineering Team Leader to join their busy team.
Working within the Operations team, this position is responsible for managing a team of Production Engineers.
This role will actively drive the team to meet its business objectives by continually developing efficient manufacturing processes
Main responsibilities:
- Design jigs and fixtures using CAD (preferably 3D) for use in production, to ensure ease of use, consistency of manufacture and error proofing whilst following lean principles.
- Produce accurate and detailed production routes, specifying operation details, work centres and time estimates for the in-house manufacture of products.
- Provide detailed manufacturing procedures.
- Assist production personnel with their day-to-day production requirements by providing them with technical assistance and problem-solving solutions.
- Select and implement the introduction of new cutting tools, whilst interfacing with manufacturing to identify the most cost-effective solution by following lean principles.
- Produce CNC Programs for the Company machine tools, (Lathes, Mills and Machining centres) using CAM software and manual programming methods.
- Review and improve production processes using lean manufacturing and continuous improvement methods.
- Work with appropriate suppliers to provide test equipment capable of testing product to customer requirements whilst ensure the safety of personnel is not compromised.
- Set project target dates, lead project teams and drive projects to ensure timely and effective delivery.
- Drive Lean principles throughout all aspects of the business.
- Work closely with all departments to ensure continuous improvement.
- Liaise with the design engineering department, reviewing new products before they are released into production, ensuring that all designs are fit for manufacture at the most efficient cost.
- Interface with the Sales team and provide them with accurate product costs, to enable the correct sales prices to be calculated whilst maintaining profit margins.
- Co-ordinate the work of the team setting targets, deadlines, and objectives for each team member of the team, ensuring targets are met.
- Undertake appraisals and performance reviews highlighting training and development needs and ensuring these are met.
- Take responsibility for full and comprehensive induction of all new personnel before they commence work, completing probationary reviews in accordance with Company policy.
- Ensure training is maintained to achieve a flexible work force, able to cover absenteeism and changing business needs and maintaining competency skills matrix to align with strategic product roadmap.
- Manage employee absence ensuring Return to Work interviews are conducted within 24 hours of return; raising concerns to line manager and/or HR Manager where appropriate.
Key Skills:
- Qualified to HNC level or actively working towards completion of a similar Mechanical or Production Engineering qualification or equivalent qualification or experience.
- Demonstrable experience of working in an engineering-based role and managing a successful team
- Demonstrable understanding and experience of quality, safety, maintenance, machining, assembly and test.
- Sound understanding of modern manufacturing methods.
- Demonstrable ability to evaluate processes and instigate continuous improvement.
- Ability to design jigs and fixtures using CAD (preferably 3D).
- Demonstrable experience of utilising Continuous Improvement tools and techniques eg VSM, SMED, TPM, Kaizen, 5S, Error proofing.
- Conversant with Design for manufacture (DFM), Lean Manufacture Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE).
- Good Project management skills.
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Ability to create CNC Programs using CAM software or manual programming methods.
- PC Literate, specifically in PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Project and Excel.
- Articulate presenter and communicator both written and verbal.
