We are currently looking for a talented and experienced Principal Transport Modeller, who has expertise in both VISUM and demand modelling, to help us grow our team.

In this role, you’ll be working within a team environment taking responsibility for the development and application of transport models, with a key role on projects and mentoring less experienced colleagues. This role can be worked flexibly with a mix of office and home working.

What does the role involve?
  • Acting as technical lead in the development and application of new and existing strategic transport models.
  • Providing technical guidance, support and training in transport modelling to colleagues and assist in mentoring and development of others.
  • Working in both supervised and unsupervised environments ensuring that the technical content of all work carried out is correct and carried out in accordance within agreed timescales and within agreed budgets.
  • Working in close collaboration with team members and other disciplines and have an appreciation of their role.
  • Undertaking the modelling, assessment and appraisal of transport schemes, local plans, clean air zones and other transport policies and strategies.
  • Working on transport models that could be multi-modal, highway or public transport focussed.
  • Producing technical reports.
  • Helping with bidding and client relationship management.
To be successful in this role you will be able to demonstrate the following professional experience and personal qualities:
  • Strong working knowledge of transport modelling software, specifically VISUM though others may include CUBE, SATURN and AIMSUN.
  • Proven experience with the development and application of strategic and, mesoscopic models.
  • Familiarity with relevant guidance such as TAG, DMRB, PDFH.
  • Good Knowledge of demand modelling including trip generation, trip frequency, mode choice and destination choice modelling
  • Experience of building a transport model from inception through to delivery
  • Knowledge of transport appraisal and associated software desirable (TUBA, COBALT, QUADRO, WITA etc).
  • Experience in managing projects and acting as a technical lead.
  • Have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt your style to suit your audience.
  • Writing reports in clear English and presenting the results to non-technical audiences.
