We are looking for an experienced engineer to join our Networks Team in Maidenhead, an engineer with strong experience of Building Management Systems (BMS), Automation and Controls, in both Residential and Commercial markets.

This Sweco Specialist Building Performance Team supports the Sweco UK Building Services Business Unit, planning and designing the fundamental elements of intelligent, automated SMART solutions.

System design begins with the end in mind, engineering pragmatic building automation solutions from the very outset of building design.

The work will predominately include the planning and detailed design of BMS systems associated with the Building Services Engineering sector. Support the delivery of a wide variety of projects within a multidisciplinary Building Services design team for several key Clients covering a range of building automation activities from project feasibility through to detailed design and construction support.

Core Duties
  • Produce an array of design deliverables in oral, written and graphical formats.
  • Undertake concept design, produce and co-ordinate detailed design.
  • Undertake feasibility studies and reports.
  • Work in close collaboration with colleagues from other disciplines as required, support mechanical, electrical and public health designers with controls commissioning reviews
  • Participate in technical reviews, internal and customer facing.
  • Produce schematic and layout drawings.
  • Produce materials and workmanship specifications.
  • Contribute to the technical detailing within BIM.
  • Check specialist trade contractor proposals/technical submissions against project requirements. Evaluate value engineering proposals.
  • Attend internal and external project review meetings as required.
  • Undertake on-site snagging, system witness testing and aid / assist with facilitating commissioning management. Facilitate factory acceptance testing.
  • Conduct technical site surveys and site investigations.
Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge And Experience

The ideal candidate will have the following experience;
  • Severl years specialist trade contractor, industry/installer experience delivering and designing/commissioning residential and commercial building automation system projects.
  • Design and delivery of BMS projects within the built environment.
  • Sound knowledge and experience of both current and emerging technologies within the following areas essential;
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • HVAC controls and integrated system design
  • Smart / intelligent building technologies
  • Controls installation and commissioning
  • HVAC / MEP / mechanical and electrical services systems
  • Metering and monitoring strategies / systems
  • Installed system condition survey reporting/monitoring
  • Building network architectures
Knowledge / experience of the following areas desirable;
  • Post occupancy evaluation
  • Commercial management
  • Work winning bids and proposal preparation
  • Working within building services consultancy
  • Managing and developing a team
  • RIBA Plan of Work
  • Part L of the Building Regulations
  • Better Buildings Partnership - Design for Performance (DfP)
  • Co-ordination of smart building and controls design with other building services disciplines.
Professional Membership and Qualification;
  • Qualifications in Engineering, Science or closely related discipline.
  • Technical membership of an appropriate professional body (desirable).
Personal Qualities;
  • Confident taking a lead role for the design of building automation projects.
  • Hands on working knowledge of Microsoft Office, BIM, REVIT and AutoCAD.
  • Significant experience in the preparation of technical written reports, feasibility studies and specifications.
  • Able to take ownership of deliverables, technically and commercially, within project deadlines.
  • Able to work collaboratively with others to form strong positive working relationships with colleagues, clients and contractors.
  • This is a client facing role, good presentation, communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Excellent report writing skills along with a good command of English.
  • Willingness to adopt new technologies in the building automation market.
  • Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with the ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions.
  • Excellent project planning and organisational skills.
