Job Details

We are looking for a highly-skilled Principal Teacher with experience who is passionate about improving life chances for all through a professional commitment to leading change and improvement that ensures positives outcomes for our children and young people. As a principal teacher in Fife you will be responsible for supporting the senior leadership team by contributing to the strategic vision for the school, working with a wide range of stakeholders to implement and pursue the objectives set in policies, and for contributing to the development of a self-improving system across the education community.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Direct line management responsibility for allocated staff in Business, Home Economics & Hospitality. performance management of staff, absence monitoring and attendance procedures, discipline and competency procedures, PRD, CPD, First Contact referrals, assist with selection and recruitment of staff.
  • Lead and manage raising attainment and achievement, attendance, behaviour management and relationships, curriculum offer, curriculum pathways, learning, teaching & assessment, and pedagogy within the faculty.
  • Responsibility for whole school policies: Pupil Vocational Pathways & Staff Professional Learning
  • Leadership, management and delivery of Pupil Vocational Pathways & Staff Professional Learning.
  • Lead and manage the engagement with parents/carers for effective learning and teaching including attainment and achievement, attendance, behaviour and relationships, and curriculum pathways.
  • Responsible for remit that involves working with parents on behalf of specified groups of pupils or pupils across the whole school: production of parental guide for strategic area Pupil Vocational Pathways & Staff Professional Learning and delivery of one parental workshop/family engagement event per year.

Qualification, Registration and Skill Requirements

You are required to have high levels of interpersonal skills and abilities which will enable you to work as a member of the senior leadership team to lead and manage school improvement, both at strategic and operational levels, to ensure continuous improvement.

You are required to demonstrate a commitment to your own professional learning as a practitioner through career-long professional learning activity and to be able to show how this has impacted on your practice.

Before confirming your appointment, you will be required to obtain Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) scheme membership through Disclosure Scotland and become a member of the relevant PVG scheme.

You are required to be fully registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS) and to model all behaviour expected of a teacher in Scotland in line with the relevant Professional Standards.

The relevant legislation on the management of denominational schools in Scotland states: "A teacher appointed to any post on the staff of any such school by the education authority. . . shall be required to be approved as regards religious belief and character by representatives of the church or denominational body in whose interest the school has been conducted."
