The Opportunity

We are looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to play a leading role in the delivery of fully integrated Mode 5 IFF capability (Identification Friendly or Foe) onto platforms across the air, sea and land domains. Working directly with customers, suppliers and partners, the successful candidate will provide decisive technical leadership of the Mode 5 engineering activities for their platform. In addition to a track record of technical accomplishment, they will be able to demonstrate past success from strong working relationships and organisational skills.

What you will do

  • Provide technical leadership and input into the whole product life-cycle, from concept through assessment and demonstration into acceptance and in-service support.
  • Combine a deep understanding of Defence standards with in-depth platform knowledge to successfully interpret customer requirements and ensure the technical solution is compliant.
  • Coordinate and manage engineering deliverables to/from customers, suppliers and partners of the Programme in order to achieve system requirement verification.
  • Participate in engineering life-cycle reviews and ensure successful customer acceptance and handover.
  • Support the Project Manager in creating work package plans and identifying and managing risk.
  • Work in a collaborative manner with Engineering management to ensure platform-level requirements are understood and addressed.
  • Maintain direct and regular contact with customers, suppliers and partners to support activities within the programme.

What we are looking for

You really must have

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and verbal), proven ability to build strong working relationships at all many organisational levels.
  • Engineering experience throughout the product life-cycle within a Systems Engineering framework.
  • Experience in equipment installation and release at systems, sub-system level and platform levels.
  • Demonstrable experience in the use of DOORS for managing requirements.
  • A working knowledge of Defence standards combined with experience of gaining military design certification.
  • Demonstrable analytical and technical problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated team player capable of working with minimum direction.
  • Competencies that typically meet the requirements for registration as a Chartered Engineer with the ECUK.
  • To obtain the relevant level of Security Clearance required for this role you will need to be a UK Citizen.
