Job Overview

This is an exciting time to join our team within the Clinical Medical Psychology department which provides input into a number of services. We are currently recruiting into this maternity cover role working within our pain management, adult diabetes, cardiac and cancer / palliative care services. The position is temporary for 12 months.

Main duties of the job

To provide a highly specialised psychology service to the newly re-modelled community pain service and to support other medical psychology areas where required. To provide supervision to junior members of the department, to provide training to the Teesside doctoral training courses, the trust staff and others as required. To provide consultancy and advice to the Teams within which you will work and to be active in audit, research and preparing and delivery of service reports.
The successful candidate will work as a member of the team contributing to assessment and intervention with the medical psychology service. You will be working predominantly within the Community Pain Management service. The service has recently remodelled and is at the forefront of MDT working. This model will emphasis patient empowerment to manage their long-term condition with the aim of reducing the journey to and from current medication dependency.

Detailed Job Description And Main Responsibilities

We require a qualified clinical / counselling psychologist who is a motivated individual with good clinical skills and knowledge in health/medical psychology generally. The applicant will have good interpersonal skills and an ability to work well as part of a team. They will also have good computer skills and competence in using digital technology. Hours of work will be predominantly 09.00 – 17.00, Monday to Friday.

Psychology Degree

Essential Criteria
  • Achieved a minimum degree mark of 2:1
Desirable criteria
  • Achieved a diploma or Masters in a relevant field of study
Doctoral training

Essential Criteria
  • Has completed a clinical or counselling doctoral level training in compliance with BPS/HCPC
Desirable criteria
  • Has published work or presented their work at conferences
Post qualification

Essential Criteria
  • Achieved 2 or more years experience post qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Good experience working within a neurodevelopmental service
Therapeutic models

Essential Criteria
  • Understaken post qualification training in a specific therapeutic model/approach
Desirable criteria
  • Undertaken additional training in ASD assessment tools, i.e. ADOS
Essential Criteria

Experience of MDT working
  • Experience of working within an MDT setting as the core psychologist
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within a neurodevelopmental service
