Job Title: Principal Product Design Engineer Job Type: Permanent Location: Northampton (Working from Home) Salary: £40K - £60K DOE Premier Engineering has engaged with a key client and a leading specialist complex systems manufacturer based in Northamptonshire. Due to business and project growth an exciting opportunity has become available for a Principal Product Design Engineer to join on a permanent basis. Main Purpose of the job: Overall responsibility of the Product Design team in achieving the requirements set out by the Engineering Manager. To take a lead role in product development and to motivate and mentor the Product Design team. Due to the nature of this role and industry sector, you must be a British Citizen and British passport holder to pass a DBS check. Responsibilities PRINCIPAL ENGINEER

Responsible for the designated design function

Provide design services for the design function.

Line Manager for Senior Engineers & Design Engineers and also for any lower grades assigned to your design function

Document Checking

Production of Requirement Specifications

Managing your team resource

Responsible for the successful delivery of your design function requirements

Control, administer and provide budgetary information to the Engineering Manager for the design tools required for your design function.

Organise and lead the Preliminary Design Reviews, Intermediate Design Reviews and Critical Design Reviews as dictated by company procedures.

Provide input to company procedures.

Act as or allocate the project lead for assigned projects.

PRODUCT DESIGN TEAM

Conceptual Design of Products.

3D Modelling.

Mechanical Design.

Monitor and evaluate novel materials and latest technologies.

Thermal Modelling.

Stress Analysis. Ergonomics/Human Factors

Provide support and input to the System Design function

Experience and skills in some of the following areas is also desirable;

Working in the Electrical and Electronic, Defence, Aerospace, Broadcast or Telecommunications sectors.

Knowledge of wiring, cable harnesses and wiring diagrams.

Stress Analysis.

Thermal awareness and analysis (modelling desirable)

Ergonomics/Human Factors

Full product life-cycle knowledge and experience.

EMC

Design for Environmental Conditions (DO160 and MIL-STD-810)
